Seems another new "Internet Marketing Revolution" is about to buzz the webmasters forums... this one is for pay per play (PPP) audio ads and a "Oportunity". NetAudioAds is promising that this will be big and will pay you for 100 % of your traffic... no clicks necessary. They are backed by one of the top 5 major search engines (with deep pockets to pull off the anticipated demand) and is preparing to officially launch on Feb. 1, 2008. (More info can be found at sellingppp.com or from my siggy link) They have already proven they are listening to their early partners / affiliates by introducing a new look to their previously "spammy" looking website and by updating their database (before the problems start). So with my sucky CTR rates and smart-priced web sites, I figured why not give them a shot. Got nothing to lose and just maybe these ads will ad some profit to the bottom line. These ads play a one-time 5 second audio ad and take up only a 1 pixel spot on your page. But I also remember some very annoying audio banners, such as the emoticons (Oh MY GOD) and ipod (NO... we didn't win anything). Maybe audio ads are becoming commonplace anymore. I really don't know as I usually surf with the volume turned down. Do you think this could add another viable means to monetize our web sites? Do you think these audio ads will become common place ? Or will they just drive visitors away?
I think a couple of ppl will try to creatively resell their programs through sigg links and such and over the long haul the markets might get use to the idea, however I think it depends on how they roll it out. Audio ads have been around for a while, (and on a side note, those emoticon banners drove me absolutely NUTS) including audio in your site or ad inventory can be GREAT if executed properly. Most important for visitors, no matter what the ad spot is worth would be the ability to stop/lower volume/skip the ad after 2-3 seconds of play. I couldn't imagine going through 10 sites all with audio ads on their pages - it would drive most people away. While I have a huge appreciation for the diversification of advertising vs. technology, sometimes I think the marketing industry gets silly with their antics... NC.
Thanks NCMedia... any ideas on how we can execute this properly ? For example... I am thinking with arcades (since adcents is paying poorly) that these visitors are pretty use to hearing some strange stuff because of the flash games on these sites. I placed the audio code on only the index and category pages... leaving them off of the actual game play pages... so as not to interfere with the sounds from game and so they do not play on each page reload either. Anyone else have any insight on these pay per play ads?
