"New User Registration" (what is that?)

Hi,

Since yesterday, I've received several emails saying this:

It doesn't look legit to me. I'm the only administrator/ user on my blog and reader only need to subscribe to the feed is they feel like it.

I have deleted the users so far but I keep on getting notice that new ones registered.

Can anyone explain me what's the deal with that?

 

I believe that is something automatic. My previous blog (dumped) had this problem too.

Just turn off user registration at admin panel.

Do you know where exactly I can turn off user registration? Can't find it!

 

Admin panel > Settings > General > Untick "Anyone can register"

Thanks for saving my sanity.

It looks very spammy although I do not understand the real purpose. I've had this blog for 3 years and suddenly I have a bunch of weird users trying to register... Weird.

Problem solved though, thanks!

 

My guess is they want to spam using comments after they register.

Because, if not mistaken, there is an option that comments by registered user will be auto approved.

It's probably that. Glad there is a way to prevent users from registering.
