The new Bond-like invention is an air/sea car by Swiss auto designer Rinspeed Inc. The water-tight car reaches a humble 77 mph on land and an even more humble 1.8 miles underwater, but its styling makes stand out above the rest. The open top sQuba is operated by multiple electric motors distributed throughout the car. The motors control both the land movement of the car and the corkscrew propulsion method for its 30 feet underwater travel. Due to its open design, the car is outfitted with two SCUBA-like masks. The car uses lithium-ion batteries and a salt-resistant interior to allow drivers to dive into fresh, salt, or brackish waters. The car was built for $1.5 million dollars as a concept car for the Geneva Auto Show. While seemingly impractical (who wants to drive in a wet suit?), the designers believe that this car could become the newest toy for the uber rich who might enjoy driving around a nearby lake or ocean. The company is in talks with some commercial car builders, final cost for each car would be less than $400,000. If you like this article, visit Word Scrawl to see more like it.
I have the test drive video here: Word Scrawl (New Underwater Car) Seems like it would be cool to test drive
I would love to drive one of these babies. Imagine never having to stop for anything even from seas, rivers or lakes.
What could this "invention" possible be good for? Why don't they stop making underwater, dancing and intelligent cars and produce a car that runs on water? Seriously, who needs a waterproof car? Or a car that can park itself? What a load of time and money wasting bullshit. If I want to go underwater I'll put on a swimming suite, what I really need is a car that runs on "unlimited" energy. There's one for ya, engineers.
Might need to earn a little more from my websites..., one day maybe... brokerdedi - there are concept cars that run on water, just not very well! People just don't like the idea that the next car will see a massive drop in performance. Although if they can run whilst in the stuff, thats an impressive success... Martyn
wow, my childhood dream of driving through the country side with cops chasing me for stealing chickens and then me jumping into the lake to escape, its coming true!!
Haha I saw this on the news last night. I dont think it would ever be handy for me. I spend far too much time straightening my hair and doing my makeup for it to be wrecked driving into water. LOL!
