New type of linking - by showing yourself as an expert

[This is a free product, I get no $ from talking about it - it's just cool]

Squidoo.com, created by Seth Godin, is a free web site for building your own single-page content sheets so you can make yourself the expert. Heck, I’ll let the Squidoo site say it better:

I was able to jump in during the closed beta phase and now it’s in an open beta phase. Here’s the run down on the lens I created: Debt Reduction - You Can Do it.

First, let me explain that each area on the page is a module. Modules can be link lists, amazon links, text, rss feeds, and a few others. It’s up to each lens master to pick their modules (yes, you can have more than one) and the order of the modules. It’s up to the lensmasters to provide the content.

The google adsense is added automatically by Squidoo and profits are distributed between Squidoo and myself (it’s a bit more of sharing across lenses, but that’s the general idea). Amazon link money is split. Now, I have added a few affiliate links into the mix so anything I make there is mine alone.

That being said, here’s the contents of my lens.

Module one (Introduction): I have written a short paragraph on debt and uploaded a photo.

Module two (Debt Reduction Tips and News): This is an rss feed I pull directly from my own site.

Module three (Five Steps to Debt Reduction): This is a text module where I’ve written a small useful list.

Module four (Debt Reduction Links): Just as the name says. I use these for affiliate links :D

Module five (Save with the Snowball Method): Another text module where I’ve added useful content and uploaded a photo.

Module six (Amazon) : a list of related books I pulled from Amazon using the easy Squidoo interface.

In a short period of time, I’ve created a free product that shows a lot of relevant information on one topic. I can link to this lens, email it to others, or advertise it. Squidoo is a new community. There is a lot of potential of establishing a high-rating lens if you start one soon. ;)

I had started it and another new site on the same topic at around the same time recently, so google hasn't added either to the SERP's. I do know google reads all the squidoo sites as a few searches of google showed it had cached other lenses. Therefore, it's too early to tell on seo traffic.

As the lens is a great way to provide content in a non-sales-pitching sort of way, I know my blog-driven readers have found it a great presentation of content.

I've been reading Seth Godin's blog for quite a while now and he's got some great ideas. I'm very interested to see how Squidoo pans out. It seems to me like the bigger it gets the more open for abuse it will become..

I was a Squidoo beta tester.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is...it'll just turn into another spam wasteland.

I think it's too early to tell how it will be used. I'm thinking of it as blog plus. As I feed my blog into it and then have added information on the same topics, it's like a blog plus.

I've had a go and created a mobile phones lense, take a look and help increase my LensRank (lets hope LensRank can be increased easier than PageRank:D )
