I've just launched this yesterday evening: http://brainscannr.com?name=Digital Point How could I make it better? Specific areas I'm thinking about are starting a mailing list and perhaps some affiliate ads - what would do well with the Live Journal/MySpace/etc crowd that I'm guessing I'll attract? I've got a mobile version (just cut down HTML and smaller graphics) ready to go that I'll release in a couple of weeks, and I've got another style of graphic that I plan to have ready next month too.
Cool idea. I'd center everything so that the site is in the middle of the browser. It's something I think should be necessary on all sites. The simplicity of the design works, it's just lacking something -- perhaps put a little more emphasis on the brainscannr results by putting a border around it? You're right that the site will attract all kinds of people, so you'll have to experiment with all kinds of affiliate ads to see what performs best. As a wild guess I'd say play around with the typical ringtone ads and see how well they convert.
Thanks for the feedback! Centring the whole page is a good idea since I have a fixed width. Adding a border to the output would be a good idea too, I think. In the same grey as the dividers, I think. I tried some Copeac ads below the results. Initial data shows 30,000 page views and two clicks... Google is doing about 0.2% CTR, but one of the sidebar links that goes to my own site has managed over 100 hits. I should try more testing and see what works, as you say, including affiliate skyscrapers. After less than two days live I'm already over 50,000 page views for AdSense, and brainscannr gets 33 unique matches on Google (and 34 on Google BlogSearch) already! BTW, the Japanese site I was inspired by has done over 500,000,000 page views in 4 months.
Cool concept, however, maybe you should add a phrase, for example: Let's say you put in John, it shows the current brain picture and then for it to say John - Confused. Or whatever the emotion is showing, happy, sad, confusion etc.
