New to WordPress

    Trying to figure everything out on WP. I am starting a site on WP before i pay for something, so i can make sure i can keep up with it to gain alot of traffic. But my question is.... how do ppl get traffic to my wordpress? do i promote the link by myself or is there a way that it can come up in searches or in a random highlights of new posts?

    any advice for newbies would be greatly appreciated.

    It's not because you will use wordpress that you will get more traffic, good and quality content gets traffic.
    If you don't wan't to promote your webiste, then content will do the job with search engines, however it takes time and effort. Also you content must be unique.

    Getting traffic has nothing to do with if you use WordPress or not. You need to learn SEO, and how to promote your content online. Whether or not you pay for anything is completely up to you, but just know that you will not be successful by doing the absolute minimum that you can do as some kind of gauge to possible success.
