New to word press

Hi..
I Would like to make a site where on the top menu i can have few major categories like sport,music and all.
on click of each main category i would like to display few more categores may be in right side of the page ?

do i need to code for that ? i heard word press should allow me do this and much more but i jst need a direction towards a correct resource.

Go to Manage, Categories, Click (Add New) the Category Name is what will show on the sidebar, if the category is more than two words long you can also create a Category Slug to shorten the URL of it just like I explained for a post slug above. To add the new category under a parent category just click the drop-down box and choose the parent category. You can also add a description in the optional description box.

Hope this helps, but i don´t know if it will work on every template; if not you´ll have to choose another.

 

thanks for the guidance , i was wondering of main category as a top menu , which i couldnt find an option for

 

First of all You have to Manage and click on Category and create the category name.Wordpress interface is quite easy.

 

thanks hilton..i actually understood how to create category and sub category as you said WP Interface is easy but was finding it hard to have main categories on op as a horizontal menu..

The horizontal menu is usually made up of your "pages".

Of course you need to be using a theme that has a horizontal menu.
