What's the best way to design a website? I don't want my website to look like a generic template. Should I go from scratch with HTML/CSS or should I find a template and edit it? I would like a simple but professional looking website.

I have no idea where to look . All that I have so far for resources is W3schools, but their tutorials are very basic.

Thanks in advance! This forum is great.

Hi, My suggestion is to Start everything from scratch, w3schools is a good step. There's no instant result for masterpieces... Good Luck :)

Even if you by or get free web templates and redesign, sooner or later you will need to edit html/css...and need basic html/css coding. So you need to start learning :). w3schools is a good way but you have so many sites like that on web.

Start from w3schools, then as time goes on you will become master of the game. Look at it from the perspective that you must start from somewhere.

W3Schools is rocking. This is should be first thing you should study. Also if you are interested to just get an inspiration, check templatemonster. Don't copy without paying but to take inspiration on how the website should look like, the above site is good.
Above all to code in HTML and knowing CSS is good and dream weaver from Adobe is the best tool to start web designing. Here I am assuming that You have knowledge of Photoshop because that is essential tool to design the elements, without graphics the site becomes only text.
You can get good images from veer.com or istockphotos, gettyimages and lot of other sites.
