Hello. I'm new to getting traffic for my website. Can you recommend me the ways I can do so? I'm willing to put hours in doing this. Please just give me the techniques.. (Since I'm new, please use newbie terms.. :O)

    Thanks.

The way I always start pumping traffic into new sites is using these free sites.

    Craigslist.org
    StumbleUpon.com
    Myspace.com
    youTube.com
    Digg.com
    Writing Blogs
    Hitting up related forums.

for those who advertise on myspace.. do you generally create an account of say a fake person and then try and get a million friends to advertise to? or do you create a profile for your business and then start adding people as friends? for example, i have a 'satellite-tv-on'pc' website that i would like to advertise on myspace. what might be the best way to market this site on myspace?

Some people do both.. the more "legit" way would to NOT create a fake person.

For traffic generation there's also adwords if you have the budget for it... and pay per impression.

Search Engine Optimization. You need to get up in the search engines by getting links back to your site. Writing blogs and articles on other sites is one way.

I personally use article marketing. That is I write articles on topics related to my site and submit them to article directories.

    Article Marketing
Craigslist.org- I posted one add in the major cities and i'm bringing in about 100 visitors a day just from taht alone
Myspace- You can buy a friend adder software, and u can spam your butt off, but you can give your website a bad rep by doing that.
    Youtube
Squidoo is a great source and is still pretty underrated. It's very easy to set up an account and write a keyword rich articles that can finish ahead of most other competitors.

You need to add your link to your signature. You want your link on as many sites as possible and you are looking for one-way links to your site. Swap links, and try to get your link on .edu sites. Google love .edu.

I would say constantly create unique content rich in your topics keywords. Update your site often, also learn the importance of title tags.
