Hello everyone my name is Jesse this is my first post on this site one of your members pointed me to this site I was told this would be a great start to getting my design business going. If anyone has any suggestions or any work at all to get me started I am working on my website so I do not have any examples of my work readily available but I can send a few via email upon request. I hope to make great business partners and clients here on this site I take things very seriously when it comes to my designs I am very prompt with getting work done for clients within reasonable time frames depending on design. So please any kind of suggestions from designers and ones looking for designs I would like to know what you want out of a designer. Thank you for all of your time.
Welcome to DP. stay with dp and i am sure you will find what you want but only what need is to be regular on this forum and participate. Thanks
What I would recommend is for you to design some templates and auction them off here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=81 You will soon get a feel for how much templates are worth, and what buyers are looking for. People like me browse those threads on a daily basis looking for templates to buy. Some popular themes are travel, puppies, and magazine-style. I don't recommend designing themes for free just to build your portfolio. Design, sell, design some more, sell some more! You'll be a pro in no time!
I'd reccommend heading down to the contests section, it's a good place to pick up some experience and make some money without being tied into working on things that you don't want to work on. It also means that you can work on as much or as little as you like. Cheers, and good luck .
Welcome to Dp jessie i hope you find what your looking for. Dont worry everyone here at dp will be glad to help you if you need any assistance
Communication is key. Being able to get the information you need out of clients, be personable, prompt. When giving examples for a proposal make sure they are genuinely different, not just quick alterations. There is a big difference between art and design. The artist expresses in their native language (whatever they feel inside) To design well you need to become fluent in the universal language of imagery. Getting familiar with symbols, (not just cross, 4 leaf clover etc...) but the circle as welcoming, the triangle as angry... and all aspects of imagery, symbolism etc... can be of a huge help... Then being willing to throw it out the window and give the client whatever they deem best can be of use as well. create art for yourself and design for everyone.
Thank you everyone for your open welcome to this forum I hope we all have a great business relationship and friendship here a the digital point forum.
