If you are in the top results for the same Adwords you are targeting then that is definitely a waste of money. Target search terms where you don't already have a good search position. The long tail words such as skin care products in your hometown or state will probably be cheaper and you could even put these out on the publisher network if you are not doing this already.

Of course the key is to test and then test some more, to see what brings the best ROI.

As far as your campaigns, you need to be tracking to ensure that the money you are spending are actually bringing an acceptable ROI as it stands. If you are earning more than you are spending then leave it, but it sounds like you really don't know.

Hello. This is Jennifer. I can tell you that Google now has an roi tracker and it is literally costing me about $17 per customer. I think that is crazy and am thinking about just dropping Google. **Now, I am NOT paying $17 per click (it is actually about .71 per click on the particular keyword), but it takes a good 153 clicks to get these customers. *We are in the process of getting out a brand new website that will really attract (and keep) the customers -- but, most of my customers state that my site is extremely informative and I don't think I could possibly be losing all those customers because it is terrible.

    Hi Jennifer,

$17 per customer is not bad if they become repeat customers. I worked for the world's largest retail consulting company for 6 years, and can tell you that most retailers spend between $200 and $1000 to acquire a customer (customer defined as loyal/repeat customer).

Now if you are spending $17 to get someone to buy $20 in product and they never come back, then you have a problem. ;)

It isnt a lot of money as long as you are getting ROI but maybe there could be room for improvement in spending. I would advise in going through as many Adwords guides and see if you are missing any of the important tips.

What you do need to figure out is if your paying customers are from your adwords or the Google search results.
