It's true that Search engine traffic convert the best. Although I'm a noob, I know it. :)

Well, SEObook by Aaron Wall is good. I have read it. But it's probably a little bit overwhelming and hard to digest for beginner in SEO.

I suggest you to read Brad Callen's SEO Mindset first since it's short, to the point and clear in teaching his SEO skills.

    Hope it helps. :)

the best is to take your time and read through all the different seo forums and ask ask around questions in my opinion because the materials in books can be outdated

SEO is a long and continuous process, some infos in some SEO books are not updated and some may be wrong. SEO Forums could greatly help you if you are a noob in this industry, start reading FaQs and threads that are relevant to your study.

I think you can learn most basics from here DP and some SEO blogs. The next step is to put what you have learnt into action.

I think there's a lot of misinformation on forums, and here isn't the best place to learn initially because there's just random discussions, so it's quite hard to grasp priorities of SEO factors and how search engines work.

I would read some beginners guys on www.seomoz.org in my opinion, and use this forum to answer any questions afterwards.

The Brad Callen stuff is good to give you an overview. Keep in mind that he is going to be trying to sell his tools to you alot in those guides, but learn the fundamentals before you have a tool doing some of the work for you. It will pay off in the long run. SEO Book is good, but it gets detailed and SEOMoz is also good as has been mentioned.

This forum is good to keep you up on the latest things. It also has rumors that you have sometime cut away from to not get things muddied up.

    Good luck in your search

I spent a lot of time reading about SEO before I ever purchased Aaron Wall's book. While reading it, I didn't learn too much. However, I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't know what their doing or how it works. It covers a lot of the details. It's a good source.

Anything that is free is good. Just don't pay for it. It is for beginners and there is to many sources out on the net that have the same information and is free.
