Hello I am totaly new to selling advertising.. We are working on a new version of our project that hopefully will be released within the next few months. With the new version I want to start selling adspace directly besides google adwords. I wrote a media kit but because I am new to this I would like some feedback from more experienced marketers. The traffic figures images are not accurate because we use 2 subdomains and google treats every subdomain as different website so our visitors are split over 3 urls. We will get rid of the subs in the new version. I will then add traffic images that represent our whole site when the media kit goes online. In the images part where the ad spots are shown one screenshot is doubled because the right one is not yet done. And in one (Beat page) the banner location is not yet in the right place but that is not important at the moment. What do you think about this so far? Are there important informations missing? Any stats that could be usefull to know for advertisers? Does it sound interesting to you as imaginative advertiser? Any suggestions for improvement? Advertising_Mediakit_v1.5.3.pdf Any help is much appreciated StarBuG
Thx for the feedback. I got feedback from someone into marketing who told me to get rid of all the marketing talk and make it very short. He said most advertisers are so bored by these things that they turn away very easily. Just pointing out essential informations such as why to advertise with us, smaller graphics so the locations can be seen without scrolling, etc. Would that be enough or would it be better to have a more detailed media kit like this? Or what about making a short version directly on the website and offer this media kit (then it would need to be realy designed though) for download if advertisers want more details? The rate card will be handed out by request. I don´t want my members to see what we charge
For all who are interested in the evolving of my media kit here is the newest version: HipHop-Battles.com_media_kit_lower_prices_v.1.6.0.pdf The MK now got a professional layout and we lowered the prices because some people told me I should start lower and raise the prices when the demand increases. What do you think about the new layout? Is it attractive for possible advertisers? Are the prices still to high? to low? good for the start? Any feedback is welcome
Honestly, as a PR professional I have to say I wouldn't consider what you have to be a 'media kit'. It's more of a sales / advertising kit - something unfortunately far too many site owners get wrong. A media kit (sometimes called a press kit), is meant to be seen by the media if they're doing background research on you for a story... not something that you're hoping potential customers are going to see. All you've got right now is essentially a .pdf brochure. The 'about' stuff is fine, but if you really intend to use it as a media kit, you need to drop the sales pitch in there, or the media are just going to completely ignore you anyway. If you're planning to simply use it as an ad kit, that's fine, but you should really call it something more similar .... even calling it an 'advertising media kit' would be better, so you don't confuse the press. Here's what a media kit should contain: 1. Basic info about the company / site 2. Full contact info 3. A way for the media to access at least your latest press release (or all of them) 4. Your bio / resume / qualifications, and those of any important personnel, plus photos 5. A description of any products or services you offer 6. The demographics of the target audience you reach 7. Basic stats (such as sales volume, unique visitors each month, etc. depending on the biz type) 8. A collection of important press clippings / mentions if you have any worth mentioning Jenn
