I'm completely new to link development and although our holiday website (directline-holidays.co.uk) is very well optimised for some very large search terms ('holidays' and 'all inclusive holidays'), at present we only have natural links. Looking into this there appears to be 4 main methods of achieving links: 1) Natural links (unknown to you another site name checks yours) 2) Links from Partners/Affiliates/Outsourced companies 3) Reciprocal links/exchanges 4) Link buys Is there anything I've missed? Should we test all of these methods or only bother with one or two?
Links from your signature on forum posts can help... though mainly to get indexed quickly. Have you got an RSS feed? Submitting this to certain sites can get you some good deep backlinks. I wrote a thread about it. You have also forgotten directory links. Find directories that have an appropriate category, and submit a link to your site using a variety of key phrases. Costs can be anything from nothing, a reciprocal or a few dollars. Personally, I avoid paying for links, but as a business you may be able to afford some. The best kind of backlinks to get are ones from related sites and with relevant keywords in the anchor text. Reciprocal links are less good than one-way links, but often have better relevance. Edit: MSN shows over 3000 backlinks for your site, Google shows ~350 backlinks and a PageRank of 5. Perhaps you need to spend time working on the on-page optimisation instead...? Cheers, Cryo.
Thanks Cryo... A great deal of the backlinks in MSN are our own... the 350 in google is much lower than our nearest competitors, so we're sure that we need to do more in this area... (I'm just about to read your RSS feed)
Hi there, I recommend you try www.receivelinks.com. It is an automated way of doing link exchanges and my traffic has increased considerably. With their paid versions you can set the minimum pagerank you receive as backlinks which I love. Only want PR 1+ or 2+ or 3+ or even 4+? Receivelinks can do that. EDIT: I should note it is free unless you want advanced features such as min pagerank
