New to internet marketing - Question on content

    That title can be rather deceptive since I'm not totally new to internet marketing, but in general I am. I'm a programmer (Java, PHP, Python, Ruby/ROR) that has been programming for about 5-6 years now. All freelance work that mostly contributes to the community (Big Linux fan) and I've never really sold much.

    Anyways, point is I'm rather knowledgeable in the field of computers, networking, programming etc. Just today I learned that people can actually sell articles and writings. That's why I say I'm rather new to this scene because I had no idea this stuff even sold. My question is how does this scene usually work? Do people hire others to write stuff for them or do people usually write stuff and then sell it? What about copyright issues etc.? Does any content work like tutorials and what not?

    As you can see I'm new to the DP community so go easy on me. Hope someone can answer my questions. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Josh

    Take a look in the Buy/Sell forum for Content. You'll learn a lot there from those threads. There are online services like Copyscape to protect against copyright issues, esp important when selling/buying.

    There is a big market because most people either don't like to write articles or press releases or are too busy to do it them selves. A good place to go is elance.com . They have a lot of jobs posted over there that you can bid on and see what is available.

    People do it both ways. You can advertise your writing services and get hired to write content. Or, you can write something, then find someone to buy it. And yes, there is a lot of tutorial-style content out there, especially for web design and coding.

    Copyright is a huge issue in the online world because it's so much easier to steal content. Many people don't realize that taking someone else's work and republishing it is a copyright violation, but that's no excuse.

    You can also search through the Copywriting forum to get more information on web writing. Doing a Google search for something like "freelance writing" or "writing for the web" will also help you get more information.

    Good luck!

    @AiasXNeo

    Since you have been programming for a while, you would probably know of freelance work exchanges like Elance or Getafreelancer. Another place you can try is Guru.com. These sites have a thriving section for content and articles, many of them related to your subject area. Maybe you can try those out as well.
