How does one go about learning CSS? I don't really want to master it, but just be able to create my own CSS codes instead of having to edit and tweak existing ones. I'm not looking for books, but what are some FAST, EASY, recommended sites where CSS is taught (in tutorials, articles, etc. - not a forum)? Thanks, Julian
download a pre-built css template (do a search for free css templates) and mess about with it, the best way to learn is to play and you cant play if ya aint got ne code
I'll combine 'em then. I'll download a template, and play around with it using things I am learning from the CSS tutorial site provided by Sorror. Hopefully this shouldn't take too long; thanks everyone! Julian
That didn't help me a whole lot... I went through the tutorials like three times, and there was a bunch left out. I sort of just had to mess around myself (no, not that way ). I just sort of guessed at it and eventually learned the way of things.
When I get to a stuck point, say getting a three column layout to work with a footer, I hit Google with my question. Any CSS problem has been solved by at least a dozen others, and code jockeys love to post their success stories! --A--
I actually find it to be a great resource, especially for reference. You get to see what the different tags and syntaxes do individually. Then you could go to a site like www.glish.com/css/ and see some final layouts and put it all together. I find that to be the best way of getting to know CSS...
I recommend Glish also - and Alistapart. You can also learn a lot by studying Zeldman's site. There's a software called Stylemaster which is cool and has some wizards but some of the templates don't work so well on Mac IE. Learning CSS isn't a walk in the park because there's all kinds off browser cross compatibility issues and if you do half assed your results will be mediocre at best. It may be better just to pay someone to do it for you.
*Mutter* I really need to write that tutorial ! * Anyway, you can't go far wrong having a play with TopStyle, it's the best style sheet editor on the market. [ http://www.bradsoft.com/download/index.asp] There's a free 'lite' version, or the obligatory 30 day trial for the Pro version ($80) There are others, but this is my favourite. .
