Hello all, I am looking to be able to accept credit cards on my site but I am new to this area of marketing. I have been online for a couple of years but have always used simple sales pages and have never done the full research on accepting credit cards. After some Google searches I cannot seem to find all the answers I need to be comfortable with making a decision. So here is a list of questions I have that I think others must have as well... I currently use an installation of Cubecart that accepts standard payments through Paypal so I have some experience with carts and functions but I am under the assumption that if I want to accept credit cards I need... a. an SSL certificate b. a payment gateway c. a payment processor 1) Do I have to have an SSL certificate? 2) If I use a service like Paypal Payments Pro, do I need additional products or services? 3) Is there an all inclusive service I can use on multiple websites? Any help from you guys would be great.
1. If you accept credit cards directly at your site you DO need an SSL. The cart you use will also need to be PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standard) and PA-DSS (Payment Application - Data Security Standard) These were created to help organizations and businesses that process card payments prevent credit card fraud, hacking and various other security vulnerabilities and threats. Check to make sure CubeCart is. 2. I believe you will still need an SSL for this payment method. 3. Most payment processing companies can set up accounts for you to use on more than 1 website. Jim
