New to CMS, get mambo or joomla?

Ok, I see there has been a split. Now the question is which one should I use. I have not used a CMS before. Mostly html/php hand coding.

    Thanks for any advice

I'd personally go with joomla. Though depending on your site wordpress can work too.

If you are only deciding between Mambo and Joomla...go with Joomla. They know the software better and patch it faster when their is a security problem IMHO.

    Joomla.

Most of the developers and 3rd party developers left Mambo for Joomla.

I received a post that says the SEO friendly part of Joomla is has some issues with duplicate content.

    Any thoughts on this?

This looks like an interesting split.
I had tried using Mambo a few times in the past, but always uninstalled it in frustration. I will Joomla a shot and see if one can get going more quickly.

Joomla Rocks Guys, as most of you will know, the core team left mambo and started joomla. Since then joomla has set out a roadmap of improvements and has release a number of new versions while mamboserver was being hacked.

So yea, my opinion is Joomla All the way

I just thought of hopping into this forum and broaden this discussion a little bit... If you guys could give one suggestion on what CMS is the best to use (not just between Joomla and Mambo), what would you suggest?

I'm also trying to start a new site using CMS... so a newbie too here. :p

i think it depends on your requirement on what you want to do with the CMS...different CMS has a different speciality..

Well, I had the misfortune of converting my Dad's site to Mambo a couple of years ago - 'twas very buggy and gave me loads of grief. I was about to change it all for something else when Joomla came along. I followed the extremely simple upgrade to 1.0.3 and hey presto the problems went away and the site loads faster too.

Of course it could have been that I had a few corrupt files in the Mambo install and the over-write fixed them, but I like to think that Joomla did it.

Since then I started a new site using php-fusion(*), which I now like a lot more than Joomla - it is easier to set up, even faster, has plenty of mods (called infusions) and it as a very active project with a good following.

    My 2c anyway,

    Charles

(*) I decided on this one after testing 33 other candidates on www.opensourcecms.com!!
