depends, if you just want to try it out to then go with blogger, it is easier.

wordpress has a lot more features, meaning it will require a little more time to get it going, but I think it is worth

the third possibility is to buy a domain and put wordpress there, which will cost you something ($50-$100 bucks for an yearly hosting plan) but is the better option if you are serious about blogging

If you have limited knowledge of design, then I highly recommend Blogger / Blogspot.

It's easier, free and you can edit the templates anytime once you acquire more familiarity with designing skills.

It's also more favourable as Blogger is affiliated with Google, so the notion is that Google tends to index Blogger blogs earlier than other types of blogs.

    Sorry, I disagree.

It doesn't matter if your a designer or not, you can use Wordpress, and to be honest, if you want to be taken seriously, then I would recommend that you use Wordpress.

They are thousands of themes and an active community developing new plugins.

It sorta does matter, because you can't just use a "pre-made" template, and run a site, because someone else would have it, so to increase the previous 50-100, then xxx.xx for a webdesigner. It is better in the long run that you learn HTML/PHP/CSS/MySQL and etc. It is also cheaper

I presonally would recommend Blogger for newbies as it is guide you upon your creation of your blog. There is step by step instructions to help you in Blogger while you will only be lead to the Dashboard and turn our setting everything youreld in WordPress.

Agreed..Though you've no knowledge on the designing, you could make a nice looking blog. There are tons of nice themes and Wordpress isn't harder to use than blogger.

Darn, back to the old, blogger vs wordpress argument.

Here's my take and you'll hear lots of differing opinions.

    Blogger:
pros: easy to use, if you can email and browse, this is a cinch. everything is automated. owned by google, you get spidered regularly.

    cons:
    1) your blogger domain effectively belongs to google. if they want to, they can freeze yr domain and totally mess up your income (i'm assuming that's one of the motivations to blog?)
    2) limited SEO available
    3) not as easy to monetize
    4) could be limitation of 3 posts a day (maybe it might have since been removed)
    5) lags like heck, especially during busy periods
    ---
wordpress (refers to hosted on your domain, rather than the freebie wordpress.com which is similar to blogger, but still better)
    pros:
    1) very customizable, you can change the template to suit yr tastes.
    2) lots of plugins available.
    3) easy to monetize
    4) SEO is a dream.
    5) lag depends on your web host.
    6) build up your PR and alexa to your desire!

    Cons:
    1) coded in PHP: some day i have no idea why the heck it messes up.
    2) some knowledge of mySQL would be an advantage.
    3) kinda techie, and need a bit of fiddling to work it.

    ---
i do wordpress blogging, making income mainly from affiliate marketing, i've found secretblogweapon.com to be really useful.

just released today, i got Super Affiliate Ewen Chia's wordpress profit blogging system, just raring to test it out. i'm also exercising my master resale rights to sell it at a crazy price. see www.WhoIsAndrewWee.com/GreatDeal.

best of luck in your blogging journey!
    cheers!

I think it comes down to what you weant to get out of blogging. If you just want to get your feet wet blogger is a great tool. If you want a truly professionasl blog that you plan to make a living from your own domain using wordpress tools is probally your best bet. I would probally try blogger first and see how that works for you.
