New to all this, Looking for advice on how to best monetize my website...

Ok folks, I have been a webdesigner for a while but have never really made money from a website via advertising/traffic/affiliate programs.

It is not a porn site, although it may sound like one at first glance, and I think I would like to stay out of the adult realm. I would like to appeal to more of a Maxim magazine crowd.

I have some random ads up on it now, but none of them are really paying too well. Adbrite has been the best so far, but their ads are a little annoying.

I have accounts with the following companies:

Google Adsense - they will not show up on this site, probably due to content.
    Adbrite
    Kontera
    Chitika
    Bidvertiser
    Clicksor
    Amazon Affiliate Program

I would appreciate any input you may have on how to make this site make some money. Thanks a lot!

One spot I was thinking to utilize for a full size leaderboard is the area just below the logo. Like I said, I am new at this and any tips on what companies to use and where/how to place ads would be appreciated!

None of the companies I am signed up with offer that. Do you know of any decent ones? Thanks for the suggestion.

    Adbrite is really good partner.
Also you should try Fidelity Media and Clicksor.
You need understand that specific sections of your site must have specific ads.
The more exact analyse of your site you'll have the more revenue you will get.

Also your actions highly depend from your site quality.

Thanks guys, looking into CPV companies now. Is there an industry standard type company for this type of ad? Also, I really haven't been paid too well through adbrite, and even worse is bidvertiser. Chitika seems to have the best payout after adbrite so far. Still experimenting...Thanks for the link Ant0ni
