Hi, I am considering designing a web site with a .web, .site, .film, .music or .xxx extension. With no decent domain names available with co.uk or .com it seems like it might be worth taking advantage of the infancy of the new extensions as many names are still available! However, I am thinking about searches I have done in Google. And I have never come across a site that is not .co.uk, .com, .net or .org. So does Google ignore all other extensions? Obviously .co.uk, .com, .net and .org are more well-known so does Google limit search results to these well-known domain extensions? If I buy a new domain with a new extension will no-one visit it because Google will not rank it? Matt.
if you can get the domain with .web .site extension, Google won't ignore you, sure will rank for you.
That is not a issue that google don't rank them, its because most people buy .com and they get ranks. you can even rank with other extensions no problem.
Yeah it just depends on the optimization you do etc... plenty of other extensions rank (.info comes to mind). It's all up to you really!
It's kind of a circle... Com domains are prestigious, so those who have them, have money for seo etc. and this is why those extensions rank higher than the less known...
How in the world are u gonna start a site with .web, .site, .film, .music, .xxx tld ? They arent even out yet. Sorry if i understood or read wrong.
no matter whether it is feasible or not your domain name if it's definitely interesting Google will rank your site.
Like the other posts say, you won't have an issue ranking those. But I'd stay clear of .ws, .co, .me etc as these are country-specific domains and probably best left for content relevant to Western Samoa, Colombia, and Macedonia respectively.
The only one that intrigues me is .xxx. The rest are about as relevant as .info or .biz. Not awful, but certainly last resorts.
