Microsoft has no products capable of doing that. It only attempts to catch up to where everyone else is. The only new products they hope will save them are Windows phone and a new tablet (again). The tablet, if it really does appear this time, will fail based on what it's supposed to do. There is no question about that. Win phone is, so far, a failure, too, based on sales which are only 10% or less of everyone elses initial sales. Microsoft is a has been company. No one cares anymore. If you want excitement, look to Google and Apple.
I can't see how one would put Microsoft as a "has been company". Although people have their several opinions when it comes to PC vs Mac, you can't deny that holds its place as being the majority OS that's used in computers. It receives criticism for its shortcomings when it comes to hardware innovations but if the company didn't take that step in breaching out of software related products.
I don't think there's gonna be talk for a new Xbox console for a while. I've heard that Sony and Microsoft won't have plans for a new console for the next 5-10 years.
Microsoft is being eclipsed by Apple and Google in all areas of computing. Windows is Windows and there is nothing new under that sun. There is nothing new in the Office suite. There is nothing from Microsoft that isn't already invented elsewhere and dominated by others. Since Windows came out, and in a sense Office, Microsoft has not done anything new. Except for the XBox and mice, when has Microsoft been a hardware company? When you think of technology, you consider the hardware you bought, your internet connection, what sites you visit and your mobile device. None of that is a Microsoft product except the OS on the computer. How much thought goes into that? Windows is a commodity like paper clips, pens and paper. You buy them when you need them but there isn't anything new, different or exciting. Yeah, they put bows and ribbons on Windows and it gets some people all excited but it doesn't make you connect to Google any faster or make your iPhone or Android work better. After all, Google, Facebook and your phone is all you really DO care about and you don't need Microsoft for any of that. For the consumer, Microsoft doesn't matter anymore. Except for games. Yeah. Games.
