Hi guys,

Is it now time to adjust your product feeds. Google has improved the taxonomy of "product_type" attribute. Where previously it was just a single word like "figurines", "books" etc, now we will have a hierarchy - just like in those big e-malls.

For example, if you're selling USB drives, your "product_type" cell will look like this: "Electronics > Computers > Computer Components > Storage Devices"

Mind the double quotes "" - it is important to maintain the quotes for those who use TSV files to upload the feed (and most of us does). If you leave out the quotes, it will upset your file structure. For XML users, the attribute will look like this:

<g:product_type>Electronics > Computers > Computer Components > Storage Devices</g:product_type>
Code (markup):
Please edit your Product Search feeds as soon as possible to benefit from the new system.

To generate the hierarchy for your specific product, go to http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=66818&hl=en and start typing your product keyword in the search field.

From the consumer's point of view, this system will improve the quality of "Related Searches".

Besides, there are some new exciting features for the Product Search such as "search by ZIP or town" and "Add to shopping list" - I thought I'd mention it, if you still doubt that Product Search is the next big thing :D
