Hi everyone, I recently launched my new site/startup and it's got a few good reviews from those that have seen it so far, but I'm more of a developer than marketer, so the site ideas I come up with always end up falling short of my initial projections for them as I don't know much marketing knowledge, so anyone that has any basic starter tips for it, I'd appreciate it. I will have a small budget soon for online/offline advertising but I guess any other 'General' advice would be good for now, I've also posted about the site here on the eCommerce section - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2391066 The idea of my site is to display other peoples online eCommerce stores which can help the business to grow, having their store listed amongst others which will also drive traffic and overall have a centralised location for people to 'shop' online. For example: If your looking for 'Clothing' you could go to Google, but you'd get about 100,000,000 results and they won't all be about clothing, also if you go into one of the results from Google and click 20 times, you'd have to click 'Back' on your browser 21 times to get back to Google, on my site you can switch from one store to another in one click. Also filter out all stores that are un-related to what your searching for. Currently you just filter out the stores you don't want etc but, I hope to add in a search field in time. Thanks, Jordan
You can create a press release and submit it to the popular press release sites. PRWEB is one of the most popular and is indexed by Google. Just make sure that your press release is news worthy. You can also submit it to the free press release sites. Just google them. Also make use of social media marketing to get the word out. You can use Youtube, Twitter and Facebook. Create a white paper and give it out for free on site sharing sites like Docstoc and Scribd. Also go to communities like forums that are related to your niche, join the conversations and promote yourself there. All the best!
Try the obvious: backpage and craigslist. Put your site's link in the titles of the ads, the titles are not "no follow". They get indexed pretty fast. Do not overdo with the posts though or you will be either constantly ghosted or your account(s) will be banned.
twitter and facebook are huge. I would make sure that you have a page and user for each and start building a network of users. Put the links on your page and give the user some kind of incentive to sign up and follow you.
Hi Jordan: I agree with Wilhouse. Using social networking sites to help propel your business forward is key. To your success!
Thanks Wilhouse and Elizabeth, Yeah I've setup Facebook and Twitter accounts, probably one of the first things I setup but I'll try keep them updated as much as possible. I need to add in some 'Like' and 'Tweet' buttons on the site somewhere too, and setup a blog would probably help too, if I keep it updated. Thanks!
