Yeah, the owner will probably sign up on DP a few weeks later and complain on his Adsense ban.

It's actually one of the key questions, how the hell did Google manage not to notice 5 biljon pages in their index being replaced with 5 biljon spampages.

A little year ago Google stated they had 8 biljon pages in their index, so let's assume they doubled that by now and have 16 biljon pages indexed (btw with 'indexed' I do not mean 'crawled'), this would mean Google engineers didn't notice 1/3 of their index was spam from 1 spammer.

If this guy had affiliate banners instead of adsense on his pages, would he have been indexed as quick?
If so, would he have to give back the affiliate profits?

There is some way to find out how many URLs are indexed now, though I don't remember how. It had something to do with making a search asking for every single page in the database that does not for example have "dfgsufhkr587h" in the file.

AdsenseBot is (supposed to be, anyway) independant from GoogleBot.
So no, having Adsense did not get him indexed faster.

Some people have reported that the AdSense bot was indexing pages. I think Google has even admitted it.

Does anyone think these billion-page spam sites have caused the de-indexing issues we are experiencing? They seem to of come online at about the same time sites/pages started dropping like flies.

Just a theory no-one's thrown out there yet.. wouldn't that be a PR disaster.

Most complaints about the de-listing are older then 3 weeks so I would say no BUT it sure might have an effect on sites that normally would have re-bounced but now don't because the index is allready full with very well-linked spam.

Yikes is all I have to say...

I'm really losing faith in Google.

Yahoo has been much kinder to me lately, almost 1.5 million this month...compared to a measly 20k visitors from Google.

Is it possible there are more of these sites out there that we haven't found, that were created before the end of May?

I don't understand how Google haven't picked up and corrected this.

    It's baffling.

Almost as baffling as trying the imagine the sheer scale of this spammers operation, not to mention the size of his balls.

I think it was kinda like...wow this is easy, let me do more :p

It's not his "fault" really. Google fucked up and indexed him!

People manage to hack into Nasa and similar sites. What does NASA do then? Tighten up their security and doesn't let it happen again. In a certain way it is a good thing that this happened, this will help google identify the weak spots and tighten them up, closing the doors to any future spammers.

No use on turning this into a "google sucks" thread.

I guess there isn't a use, but there's a lot of bitterness towards google as of now :p

It'd be nice for them to know that their status as net god isn't permanent.
