New source site not showing in Google Serps, yet sites that are linking back are?

I have a strange Google situation that I do not understand nor know how to go about fixing. My site deals with computer help and spyware removal. Being very active in the anti-malware community and due to automated tools that submit samples to my site, it's not uncommon for myself or others at the site to find new malware before other companies or sites.

Recently we discovered a new rogue-antispyware application (deceptive scammy program) and did a blog entry about it and a removal guide for it. This blog entry was picked up by quite a few sites all which linked back to the blog entry and the removal guide.

At the time of the writing there were only 2 serp listings for the term and now, a few days later, there 43,000 results for that term. Now what I find confusing is that there are no Goole serps for my removal guide or blog entry, yet 7 out of the first 10 Google entries are summaries of my information with links back to my blog and removal guide. Yahoo and MSN show me as first and I would think since all the other sites are linking back to me Google would think I am the source of the news and therefore the most relevant. At least that was how I assumed Google worked? Maybe I am wrong.

Last but not least, I see that GoogleBot visited the link about 5 minutes after I posted the blog entry.

Any clues as to why I would not appear in the serps when so many others in the first 10 results are pointing back to me as the news source?

Not sure if I necessarily agree with this. I agree that it may give better rankings when in the SERPS but thats not my problem. My problem is that sites that were indexed after mine and link to me as their news source were listed while I was not even in the serps.

What do you mean...this info I am anxious to hear as I am always trying to clean it up a bit. I looked at the link provided and the tutorial title is fairly high up. Yes there is quite a bit of space between me and the title but it's the first real content shown.

I am going to be adding dynamic meta-descriptions and keywords. Hope to have that done tomorrow as I keep forgetting to do it.

All of these types of things, though maybe good for rankings, does not explain why it took so long for my pages to appear in the serps. When I woke up this morning and checked my pages did indeed appear in the serps now. What I find strange was why it took me so longer compared to the other sites. This is not a one off either, I have seen this behaviour before. Could I be penalized for something?

    How long ago was this?

are the majority of the back links direclty to the page?

    can I see the page?

rest of your google traffic is fine?

    is the page indexed?

Your site may not be highly regarded by Google. icarusindie.com has been around for 6 years and anything I post on it gets indexed within a few days.

How long has your site been up?

    Sure,

This is the original blog entry (Now in the index):

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/securityblog/2006/08/31/virusburst-rogue-antispyware/

This is the lofi version (removal guide) that is in the index:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t63896.html

This is the actual forum topic (removal guide) which is still not in the index:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic63896.html

All of these being visited by GoogleBot within the same time period.

We get a ton of traffic from Google, but I have run into this situation in the past where we break a story, Google visits the site first, but we still show up much later than everyone else.

It is now as of this morning when I checked. last night around 11pm eastern it wasnt.

My site will be up 3 years this march. For the most part almost everything gets in the index fairly quickly (3-4 days). It's just weird that other sites that are linking to my content get in before me even though GoogleBot has already visited.

I do have concerns that the site is not regarded as well as it used to be though. During the Big Daddy update my site was basically dropped from the index and was only showing older urls that had since been put in the supp index. After Matt Cutts examined the sites that had this problem they tweaked their algorithm and I came back stronger than ever.

Since then I have had these intermittent issues where I break the stories and then have to wait for the pages to get into the SERPS while everyone else gets in before me. Matt Cutt's explained why this happened here:

    http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/indexing-timeline/

I had been using the coop and had since stopped using it for this reason. If I am not trusted, I guess I need to wait to they update the links again so those old crappy ones will be dropped. I am not even sure, though, that this is the reason.

I am hoping its another reason rather than just not being regarded that highly due to the irrelevant links I had previously. At the same time this query: "www bleepingcomputer com" -site:bleepingcomputer.com in google shows a ton very relevant links so I have no idea.

Hope this ramblin makes sense and thanks for reading :)
