    Agree. Change the "grey" background to more social friendly background image. Add content, content, content. Include a privacy statement, contact page, about the network page, etc. What is the network about? Why must I join? Search for a book titled "Designing for the social web by Joshua Porter". In the book you will find some excellent tips about social networks.
