Well I re-did the website and created a new sitemap, which I submitted and verified with google. Do you know how long it takes before they index my new pages? Does it matter that the new sitemap has the same name as the old one?
The sitemap.xml will be indexed within a few minutes after submitting it to google. But the number of your pages indexed by the google will vary. It depends.... The filename sitemap.xml should never be changed
Submitting a sitemap is not a guarantee of indexing. It is a good way to make sure Google (and others) don't miss any of your pages but you should expect that some portion of your pages may not be indexed.
The first version of my sitemap had 6 urls listed and all of them were indexed (within a week at least) My new sitemap has 5 urls listed so I assume having them all indexed wouldn't be an issue.
Of course, the sitemap shall have the same name,I think it may take weeks to get your sitemap works with google.
As stated, your sitemap will always be named sitemap.xml. Remember, the sitemap.xml is not the same as your sitemap.html that is visible to surfers to your website. Once uploaded and submitted to both Google Webmaster Tools and Yahoo Site Explorer, those search engines will crawl it very quickly, in my experience. Probably within minutes or hours of submission. How soon they will index the new pages listed on your new sitemap.xml is another story. I've seen it done quickly; I've seen it delayed for a couple of weeks. There's no predicting the indexing.
Agreed that in with a number of urls that small they should be indexed quickly. With larger sitemaps that will not be the case. Cheers.
