    I really liked the design and the "read the rulez" banner.
    The smaller colum helps with the reading.

    This is my 1000th post. New site is looking cool. I need some time to understand all the features. As of now I am not facing any issues with the new site.
    Is alerts similar to subscribing a thread? I get an alert when someone posts to the thread which I posted.
    The smileys look superb :)

    Would be nice to get a fluid or at least a 70% width for the theme, everything looks cramped and squashed especially in the marketplace . Looked at it for 5 mins and decided to leave because it just looks bloated.

    Xenforo i like but not a fan of the look but im sure its something people will get used to...

    Yeah, I'm a little up in the air on the fluid style. I keep going back and forth... like the style was ONLY fluid on the old site, and I keep trying to go back to fluid here, but it really starts making things look bad in some cases.

    From a UI/UX standpoint, I'm really starting to understand why all big sites use fixed width (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, CNN, ESPN, etc, etc...), which I never really understood before.

    Fluid does tend to look crappy when there is alot of white which there currently is, id imagine with all your modifications like the marketplace it would cause placement issues too maybe. Although personally i don't think its working as a fixed width either as everything is look like its being crammed in , which in actual fact is hard to do when there is so much white lol, good accomplishment there lol :)

    Thats just my opinion though, obviously being such a large site you cant please everyone and ive seen alot of people saying they love it.

    I'm not disagreeing with you. I was just saying that every time I *try* to go back to fluid it's been causing just random cosmetic weirdness that doesn't look good. For example, this editor box does not move horizontally with resizing, but the buttons under it do. So you end up with buttons detached from the editor.

    Then you just have areas that look "off"... like here: https://marketplace.digitalpoint.com/ when instead of a 3x2 grid of buttons, you have 4 on top, 2 on bottom, 5 on top, 1 on bottom. Things just start feel strange is all.

    I'm going to keep seeing if I can figure out a way to do a fluid style without mucking the UI/UX too much, but like I said... I have a newfound appreciation for why the big sites always used fixed now. lol

    Understood :).

    On another note, how do i make the 4 marketplace notifications disappear ? there doesnt seem to be any way of making them go , i assume there is suppose to be a drop down menu but i cant seem to get it to drop and and when i click the marketplace button they disappear. I think the little drop down arrow is currently hidden by the red number which is why i cant click it. ( im using firefox by the way on PC if that helps )

    Just looked with firebug, the red number is covering it. I move it up ( currently on top:-1px ) and i can click the arrow and see the notifications . Apparently i have 4 things to pay for..........how do i get rid of them , they are ancient

    Still trying to decide what to do with the old items people didn't use Instant Pay for when they should have.

    Re: number, I know... It moves down a couple of automatically if there is an AdSense ad above it so it doesn't overlap and violate their TOS in doing so. Also looking for better options on that still.

    No worries thought id give you the heads up incase you didnt know about it, One thing i would probably do is increase the header size and position the navigation lower so its then got room with out overlapping the ad ( it actually looks better imo slightly bigger )

    Hi Shawn, nice work. Regarding the width, I like what I call the 'dynamic fixed width' used by ebay and rotten tomatoes forums: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/

    So basically it's semi-fixed. Thinking about doing that on my own forums when I switch to xenforo.

    Not sure what you mean... eBay is fixed width and Rotten Tomatoes is fluid (unless I'm missing something)?

    They have a bit of both worlds. I believe there's a max-width set but no min-width. The max-width is the fixed aspect, the lack of min-width is the fluid aspect. On ebay it actually only shows on object pages.

    The forum you mentioned is fluid but instead of a set margin on either side for borders it's been set at something like 70%, its still a fluid theme . eBay is indeed fixed width...

    Again, the max-width of the RT forum is fixed. It's only fluid in the sense that there is no width or min-width set. Ebay object pages are also min-width. Make your browser window narrower and you'll notice that there's no min-width set.

    I stand corrected, it is a max and min width site.

    div#fluid_container, div#fluid_bottom_container {
        margin: 0 auto;
        max-width: 1426px;
        min-width: 996px;
    }
    Code (markup):

    BTW I think I'm wrong about ebay, could be just fixed width on the object pages, I'm not sure. Edit: and also min-width on RT, ok.

    Ebay has different widths on different pages , for example :

    .sz1200 #Body {

    max-width: 1200px;

    min-width: 1200px;

    }
    Code (markup):
    is the listings results page
    .sz1280 {

    max-width: 1460px;

    min-width: 1215px;

    }
    Code (markup):
    is the product page and
    .fflx-flxpgc, .fflx-pgc {

    padding: 0 !important;

    width: 990px !important;

    }
    Code (markup):
    is the homepage
