Believe me, I know all of this. My problem was with people trying to find something, anything, not to like the new website. The website runs super fast for me, I personally found no page to load in more than 5 seconds. Pure luck?
You might be sitting on top of it or major pipe -- what's your ping time to here -- I'm seeing 500ms to a full on second from here; but that's easily explained as here in New Hampshire I'm on the odd side of the northeast divide -- where I get faster response to europe and canada than I do any of the cities within 100 miles to the south. From here to Chicagoland is outright painful; and Chicagoland is where a lot of people host BECAUSE it's sitting on a major backbone intersection.
Actually, I didn't know... but right when you said that, I knew why. It stems from the fact that Firefox is the only browser that doesn't support retina graphics here. Either way, it's been fixed, but you might need to flush your cache (or at the very least reload that one image sprite). Yeah... just not terribly fond of running third party stuff on the site. And would probably take the same amount of work to just add a dislike button than it would be to audit all the code and strip it down to just a like/dislike button.
Here is another one, which allows for negative points and comments: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/bd-reputation-system.15046/
It takes about, what, 10 minutes to shave in the morning? No problem, razor in one hand, wireless keyboard in the other, all done! I wasn't aware of that one. That one is actually a bit closer in functionality to vB's old system with the comments.
I'd like to add another peeve, though. I get a couple of dozen emails every day for threads I'm participating in or watching. In the old site, the email had a few lines of the post, so I could just look at an "I agree" post (or some other post that I didn't need to read the rest of) and go on to the next one. Now I have to go to each post on the site itself (which takes a few seconds to load - whether due to my location, the site being slow, whatever) just, in some cases, to see that I wouldn't have wasted my time reading that post. Could we get the first few lines back in the emails, please?
There are a few technical issues with having the content of posts/conversations directly in the notification email. Hopefully we can get them worked out, but I have no eta on it.
Small thing not working. When checking the "history" link at the bottom of the forum, it shows the various IP's I have used to login. Those IP's are clickable but take me to an error page. The format of the URL is: https://toolsdev.digitalpoint.com/geo?ip=10.10.10.10
Yeah, working now. That was fast. In checking that there is a recent IP, since 2013, that was used twice that is unfamiliar to me. Weird. Time to add some of your new security measures.
All the backend processes running that have been keeping the site slow are done for the most part... there's still one running, but it shouldn't slow the site down TOO much. Site should be noticeably faster now and will be faster in a day or so when the last one finishes up.
It would be nice to have a choice between a fixed width or a fluid theme, some of the font sizes are really a strain to see the text, otherwise you made the right decision dumping VB
Style issues certainly will be addressed. Still working on the more important things though... like bugs that prevent parts of the site from even working.
What is the "best answers" Shawn? it looks like it will take me some time to fully understand the new site
This is just delicious. The site looks awesome. I come over here from the XenForo support forums when I found out you're now the biggest board using the software and I find it simply amazing how you were able to convert from your previous form so well. Congratulations Digital Point!
Hi Shawn, I've found some bug here. I have won several domain auction at 2009-2011 and have paid it manually, but the new system shows "Pay Now" button (https://forums.digitalpoint.com/marketplace/won) and my feedback rating is only 50% as buyer. I mean please remove the "Pay Now" link as I have paid them manually, and bring back my 100% buyer rating as I always pay what I have purchased.
I've got the same for two transactions, but I believe it's working as intended. My transactions are from 2010, and though I've found them in my PayPal history, I can only assume I didn't use the pay link in the marketplace.
