Hello Everyone, I am confused about something, and would really like to get your advice. I'm torn apart here, and cannot seem to have my mind set on the right way to go. I have many ideas to write about, and produce thereof some original high quality content, which I will write myself. Therefor, my guess is that such content will drive a lot of traffic, and make up a great improvement for any site. Now trying to decide where to start posting that content, I've considered two options: 1- I have an old good ranking ezine - articles directory which generates some good Adsense earnings. This site contains some original content, but it also contains many articles which were previously posted by their authors on other sites. (prior to mine). The advantage of this option is that I can easily advance this site by that original content, and thus quickly improve my Adsense revenue. 2- The second option is that I start a new site, where I will post all the new and original writings. I will never post in it any unoriginal or nonexclusive content. All that in the hope it will get better rankings than the other site, and generate more money. The advantage of this is that I'll start a new, clean and quality site which will have a good reputation from onset. But the downside is that I do not know when will it start ranking high and drive decent traffic. So my two questions are: 1- Which of the 2 options do you think is better? But please take into consideration that my main objective for the time being is to quickly generate as much money as I can from Adsense. For we are living now in very hard financial times. 2- If posted in this ezine (the old site), will that original and quality content make up for the old low quality content. Or will the old content keep affecting its ranking forever?! Knowing that that ezine could still have some copied content from elsewhere, since - by its nature - it allows for members to publish their work. Can anyone please help me out here? Thanks in advance!
Well I would just expand the 1. site you already seem to have rankings. Just expand that. What I would never so is delete the 1. site. If you really want a new site then keep the 1. one and on top of that start a 2. site. Greetings
Go with your good ranking ezine, dup quality content is not an issue and adding unique new content can only improve your site.
I also feel like the first site can be standalone. You can ride that site out till it starts to die, and then maybe add fresh content to it to keep it relevant and running. However, I also believe that a second website needs to be made for the original content. If it's around the same subject, it's highly possible that you may gain more earnings on Adsense. Mixed content and original content usually don't work out too well, as it has the possibility of losing its ranking on the SERPS. I hope the mixed content isn't duplicate content. That's just my 2 cents; I'm sure someone else will think otherwise.
Since quickly generating money is the objective you have to post to the ezine site provided there is no penalty and the metrics are good which seems like a good bet if it's making money from adsense. It probably depends on how egregious the old low quality content is. Low quality is subjective. Copied content is not. However there are ways to post copied content and state it as such without being penalized for it. If the original content is ranking in Google SERPS and adsense is paying for clicks then you're probably fine to post new original content. However, don't underestimate how bad it is to have all your eggs in one basket. Do both. Write original content that can rank quickly on the ezine site for the quick payoff and write original quality content for a new site to diversify your income sources going forward.
While I would give the same response of going with the first site, you are wrong in your assertions about duplicate content. I have worked hard with several clients in the last two years to restore their position after being hit hard due to duplicate content, and they have seen consistent results. You ABSOLUTELY have to focus on original text, or lose traffic from Google for poor quality. Lets make one thing absolutely clear here... Google always will prioritize original sites and content over spam and copy/paste content. This is not up for debate, it's not a myth, it's a fact that they have pushed to the forefront increasingly in the last five years thanks to algorithm updates. This is not going to change, if anything it's going to become increasingly elaborate and will eventually start to sniff out spun content too. The job of a search engine is to provide the best answer to a search question, and Google will not deem a copied and pasted page or poor quality text to be the best response to any question. People can argue this all they like, but if they try to say that original and engaging content is not important they don't know how a search engine works and have no place in this business. It might sound harsh, but it's true. You cannot claim that duplicate content is not a problem when Google (the leading search engine) clearly states that it absolutely is. Now that I have that out of the way, I would also go with the first site. You have the material there already, it's an aged domain with some relevance, and it's not all duplicate. The real problems come when you reach a certain unbalanced level of poor content compared to useful content. If the site is still doing okay then you haven't upset Google too much with the poor content. You can recover this site far more easily with new and unique text, and perhaps rewriting some of the poor content, than you could build an entirely new site.
