Hi, I'm starting a new site, and I'm wondering if any of you want to share your experience about the optimal site structure. Part of the key phrases I target is a pretty generic word. Let's take an example, and say its "bread". I want to target e.g. "gluten free bread", "flat bread", "white bread", "healthy bread" etc. You get the idea. I have the generic domain, in this case "bread.org". I'm starting from scratch, so what would be the optimal use of domain- and page names? Remember, the generic domain I have (in this example) is "bread.org". So, which site structure should I use to get the max. SEO benefit for the phrase "flat bread", in this example? flat.bread.org bread.org/flat bread.org/flat.html bread.org/flat-bread bread.org/flat-bread.html flat.bread.org/flat-bread I know that what counts is quality content and quality backlinks, but if I can get a bit out of using a certain domain/page structure I'll certainly do that Thanks for any insights you might share
Well you can use any one of those all use the keywords you are targeting in the file structure, but try to avoid sub-domains for targeting a keyword in this case because there is an uncertainty whether Google treats sub-domains as the part of the main domain or as a separate domain because if it does consider as a different domain then you won't get the full benefit of the directory structure using a sub-domain.
As far as the domain goes, you need to think about what you want to do in the future. If you are doing other "breads" then just have that as the domain name. As far as folders/files goes, you want it as specific as possible. the page ending (.html) doesn't matter.
