Another thing just crossed my mind... Do you guys think OBL's (to authority sites on the subject perhaps) might help?

I'd add them always, but as a resource for site visitors, not SE's. (If you know what I mean)...

Agree with SE there, hypertext is afterall, the whole reason for the web's existence... forget St. Paddy, when we gonna have a St. Tim's Day?

    *ahem*

Visitors really appreciate links to things you talk about but don't explain... Manufacturers, a glossary of terms, etc. IMHO they really add to the value and user experience of the page, so DO links if appropriate :D

    $0.0199 ;)

    Don't be modest. That's £0.021 at least!

Yeah I guess you're right. I normally don't link away too much because it might send them off and they might forget about coming back. Judging from my own browsing habits, that's exactly how it goes. And some of the manufacturers sell online themselves which is an outright crime IMO so I'll definitely not be linking to them.

I'll add some links to 'info' sites.

I was thinking of adding another info box with some 'site tips' with rotating one-liners like 'see [this link] for info on [this]' & 'you can pay by credit/debit, cheque and bank transfer', 'most mattresses arrive within 3 working days' etc.

Reminds me I forgot to build a site-map.

If you see anything on there you like (or any of our other shops), I'll give you a nice disocunt for your efforts!

Has PRWeb been successful for others in the past in terms of SEO or is the primary benefit just to get the word out more generally?

SEO valua is limited because you can't submit html. So unless you have KWs in the domain name/url it's not much use. And the link on the right will always say 'visit our site'.

So the primary thing is either spidering or traffic (if interesting enough to read) indeed.

What about starting a yahoo group? That could be a easy way to attract some new visitors.

Sounds like too much time and effort.

I'm not worried about getting traffic. It's more about tactics to get ranked fast.

Do you like to get a subdomain on my mediaplace.nl site for a while and do a redirect? That might get you a high ranking fast?

    Well... Interesting update!

On Friday 18th I put some ads (AW not Co-op) and links live to it. Guess what.

Both G and MSN have indexed pretty much entire page. With (almost all) full description and titles. The KW phrase in the domain (I didn't 'SEO' anchor text properly on purpose) ranks 19th in G UK and 20th MSN UK.

    Yahoo hasn't been round yet.

MSN finds 6 live links to it. G doesn't report any BLs.

G site: shows 33 pages of which 24 proper ones (full desc/title/cache). G's API reports 2 pages in url.

I knew MSN is fast but without any 'big' links, this is real fast. Same for Google; all BLs are PR 0-4.

I'm not celebrating yet at all. I've seen this initial boost in G many times before. I'm keeping a detailed log of my findings and efforts.

PS for those interested: the domain was registered in late December 2004.

Hey TOPS30 I had the same good fortune with MSN Australia. The difference is I had two single little links in my signature on another SEO forum ONLY. That was it and within two weeks I had ALL of my keywords, pretty competitive ones too, on page one, with three sets sitting at number one too. Now the domains are redirected it's starting to slowly fall off and the real work begins of building the real one!

Rank for a fair few phrases on all 3 SE's as well. Haven't done anything beyond what I said in my previous post... Time for Co-op or take it easy?

    The 'blog' continued...

Yesterday I enabled the first 2 Co-op ads for this site. I decided to link to deep pages with 3-4 word phrases as anchor text. I gave it 0.5% of my 30K-ish weight each.

Guess what. MSN KWT rankings are all green. MSN is like a dog you can whistle to and they'll come running after you it seems. The 2 phrases jumped within 24 hours to #4 and #14 and variations of those 2 to #5, #8 and #8. I also got surrounded pages boosted and more indexed. MSN definitely seems to be easy to manipulate (or this is just a premature 'boost' which will settle soon).

PS with now about 130 uniques a day it has hit 1 sale a day on average so thanks all yuo for making this run well from day 1. I'll now slowly start to build links and ramp up the ad spend.

    so the conclusion is this....

Google will spider your site whatever and other search engines will follow suit. However, if you have a huge % in the Co-Op adverts section then you'll get the hits??

Sorry but I didn't learn anything from your tactics, only that I wish I made the Co-Op ads myself!

The tactics were mainly discussed to try and avoid the G sandbox. That didn't quite happen, the first real KWs are only just started to get out of nomansland.

The main tactic was delay and slowness. I was busy enough to net get restless for link building. It seemed to have worked quite well.

I'm launching another one tonight, this time I will try Google's sitemap to get stuff indexed... We'll see how that goes.
