I'm pleased to annouce the launch of my newest site, www.FreeArticleHQ.com. Writing and distributing articles is a great way to advertise. Free Articles HQ Terms of Use requires author byline and footer information, including hyperlinks and URLs, remain intact. Posting free articles on your web site is an easy way to add relevant content. An article also makes a good addition to your ezine or newsletter. Not much there yet, but I'm looking forward to growing it. Today is the first day live. Feedback appreciated- Thanks,
Nice, When you search for an article category and there's no articles in it it gives you a weird error (db Query?), remove it it can be a securty Issue.
Nice site iShopHQ, clean look. I would create some sort of header with the site's title, maby in a picture or something. And I would change this text product into article category. What script are you using for this site?
Hey WhatiFind- Thanks for checking it out. Good suggestion on the wording - fixed it. I tried a header, but wanted to go with a 'sheet of paper' look and feel. I'll revisit that and see if I've changed my mind about how it looks. I design/developed the site myself. ASP in VBScript with a SQL Server 2000 backend. I also host it from my own servers. As I type my two servers (and one development box) are humming away happily, bathing my legs in electromagnetic energy.
iShopHQ: I tried to submit two articles and your article submission process does not work. Test it. "This page not available" notice comes up when I press submit button. Also, 5,000 characters seems like a very limited capacity for the article text. One of my articles is over 3,000 words so I know it would exceed your stated capacity. Also, I get the same notice when I try to send a message via your contact form. Best of success, Robert
well drat.... I'll check it out. All the current artciles are articles I submitted using the process on the site, but I was tinkering last night. Maybe I hosed something up.
Hey Robert I removed the character limit and tested submitting using FireFox and Internet Explorer on a Windows machine. If you're of a mind to ry again, and still receive an error, any specifics like OS and browser version would be very helpful. Thanks-
You need to do a little more < and > censoring in the 'Easy-Copy HTML Code:' part. For example this article has < and > in the actual article while in the 'Easy-Copy HTML Code:' it doesn't show up as < > So the person who get's the article from there won't get the examples in the article. Instead it might mess the article up.
You will also need to get some people submitting to get the site going, even if you need to pay them. When I am looking at which sites to submit my articles to, I usually pass on any that only have a small number of articles or no recent ones. I realize you are just starting but a succesfull Article Submission site is much like a forum in that you need to be busy to attract more people. I have seen a wave of new ones be released but it is not as easy as it looks. I doubt we will even break even this year with all that is required to market one succesfully. Have you thought about targeting a niche rather then going after the general market? This lends itself to a lot more partnerships and cross promtion. Good luck with the new site!
ninetendo- Thanks for pointing that out. Another item on my list. yfs1 - I hear you, brother. I'll probably take to emailing people with articles listed on other sites and asking permission to report them. I know how hard it is to get something like that going.....
The site feels like an article/journalism site when you enter - neat, organized, and that font selection (in this case) is great. I agree with yfs1, you're going to need to improve the database size, but it looks like you're already planning it. Good luck with it!
iShopHQ: I tried again to submit an article, but again got this notice: The page cannot be displayed There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed. I am at a college library and they are using Windows XP and IE6. I'm frustrated because I have used up a lot of time in unsuccessful efforts. By the way, I tested the contact form and it worked. Best of success, Robert
Hi Reobert, I appreciate all your troubleshooting and sorry you've ended up frustrated. I've tested the submission process: Windows 2000 IE 6 and FireFox Windows XP IE 6 I didn't have any problems..... It sounds as though your browser in the libray has Friendly Errors checked, which means it's not giving you the specific error. Without the specific error, and without me being able to replicate it, I can't figure it out. It might be that you are busting soem character limits, so I will put a check into palce for those. Limits are Title: 100 characters Email: 50 character Name: 50 Characters Footer: 500 characters (even though it says 300 on the page - need to update that) Body: no character limit
I have to say I really like it. I've been looking at article sites recently and the "Easy-Copy HTML Code" is very handy for someone like me (So said the article I looked at had no problems with the < and > tags been messed up, if I was copying and pasting and it was an issue it would bug the hell out of me so I'd check that report from before..) If you are looking for feature suggestions then goarticles has the option of selecting articles to e-mail to yourself. If you could add something like that it would be great for end users too. Also I think most people wouldn't mind you having something in the easy copy\paste html that links back to your articles site too? Maybe make it an optional extra that if it's ticked by people that don't mind then it adds one last link\logo for your site..
very nice site ishophq. the only thing i would change are the link colors. maybe its just me, but i hate default colors. It fits your site ok, its just that i am picky... good luck with this one...
Good suggestion interlogic, about the backlink. I might pop it in - once the site actually starts getting some users!
