New site - how to advertise?!

    Hello guys!

I really need your help on this one: I have just opened a new site about microsoft flight simulator, and I'm wondering what's the best way to let people know about it. I have a partnership with a big magazine related to this simulator and we should have a big screenshot contest by october - the winner will get a great prize. They also agreed to advertise the contest (and thus my site) on their magazine (and probably on their site too). You think that's enough for now? What did you do to advertise your site when it had just started?

I work hard to develop unique and helpful content: latest news, reviews, tutorials, etc. I'm sure it will interest most of the people, but they need do know we exist!

    Thanks in advance
    Chief Wiggum

I would suggest: Writing articles. Make them interesting, submit to the right categories, include links in it with anchor text you are targetting. In fact, write several. Spend a day writing, trying to get all your major keywords in a range of articles. Then, submit it to the articles sites listed here: http://perfect-party-ideas.blogspot.com/2005_01_06_perfect-party-ideas_archive.html
Your backlinks will grow and grow as more people use your article, plus its getting your site information out tehre too.

I would also recommend writing a press release and submitting it to PRWeb too. Search these forums for PRWEB press releases, there is a lot of useful info regarding how to write best, how much to pay etc.

Your current advertising sounds good. I presume you are looking for traffic and interest via SERPS too, in which case read up on here about on page SEO and start backlink building with related sites (again, targetting your keywords in the anchor text). Once you have got all that under control (it will never be finished :D ) you can think about rss feeds and other snazzy things like that. Check out digitalpoint's co-op network too, it may/maynot be suitable for your site.

Well, I think you have plenty to work with there, no doubt there will be plenty of other ideas from others here too. All teh information you need is on these forums (somewhere!)

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the reply!

Are you sure submitting arcticles to these sites are a good option? I'm don't know if there are many people interested in virtual aviation, can this 'low-quality' traffic spoil everything up?

I'll consider your suggestions and search the forums for more information about advertising. Thanks again!

The thing about submitting articles is that if they are gonna be picked up by any sites, they are gonna be sites that have an interest in it, hence any traffic you get from them should be fairly targetted. Plus if nothing else it will helpyour SE results.

The way i started out was by submitting to some free directories, got about 40 bl behind ya to start then target related sites - email them asking if they will add your link (remember to ask nicely)

I agree with just-4-teens. I started the same way. Got a link directory started of my own and that really helped.
