New site computer networking help site, need marketing advice

I just launched a new site a couple of days ago:

    http://www.computernetworkinghelp.com

I built it mainly around high paying CPC keywords in hopes of eventually making a steady income from the yahoo ads running on it.

It was built in Joomla and is pretty optimized for SEO, I write the content myself and one of the primary focuses is a message board that folks can ask for help and share experiences in the field.

So far I've submitted to the major SEs, built sitemaps, thrown some of my COOP weight from my other large site at it and hired a forum posting company along with friends and workers from my other site into the forum.

I was thinking of running an adwords campaign or something like that to get things rolling a little quicker. Is this the best route or can anyone suggest some alternatives or additional things I could do?

I keep hearing the press release buzz but I'm not sure that would help me in this situation?

You can always try to take shortcuts to get more traffic with adwords and other programs but consistantly updating with new content over a long period of time will yeild relaly good subscriptions for you and start your snowball effect with repeat + new visitors

Well, I plan on keeping the content up to date as I'm already considered to be an expert in the field. That makes it a bit easier for me.

I realize over time I can generate traffic if I keep up on the site, I just wanted to give it a little jump start.

Site looks pretty good, forums take time, fresh content can really help you out, and build a user base.

nice site, I'll join in a sec. I'm in the IT industry also. It will take time, forums and blogs are definitely not short term. Prepare for the long haul. Get a few quality, high posting techs, in there and the rest will come...

    Very good-looking site!

I would suggest that you post in other forums. Answer someone's question with a link to an answer in your forum or on your site. The Dell forum if full of unanwered questions from interested, but non-expert people. Probably similar at hp, gateway, linksys, etc.

Not sure that wouldn't be considered spam?

    There can be a balance.

Starting a thread that's "Hey look at my site" is clearly spam.

Replying to a post with "Hey look at my site for an answer" is a bit less.

Replying to a post with a short, on-topic answer followed by "for complete instructions, look at this page on my site" is much less spammy IMO.

You could go as far as including several links, yours being one of them.

Of couse, you can reply with a complete answer and hope they click on your sig. I think this would generate less traffic than an on-topic link in your reply.

    Good luck with that :)

As you know this particular field is highly competitive, I can't even begin to imagine how many sites are dedicated to this subject.

So what will make your site different?
I think offering a 'help desk' type function would be good - it could be a point of call for people having networking problems (I know I need something like that sometimes :D )

You can pay someone to write articles for you, you can get articles for $3-10 each depending on quality and length.

Well one thing that makes my site a bit different is the interactive forum in which I'm willing to offer help to folks.

Being a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert in both Routing and Switching and Security along with 14+ years of experience in designing, implementing and maintaining almost every device, media and protocol under the sun that should offer something that most don't.
