Yeah and I hate all of them that are based on lame made up keyword terms... What kind of fricken contests are these anyway?? I do not see baseball teams playing world championship games on smaller outfields so they can scores 100s of home runs. Football (USA Version) does not shorten the playing field to make it easier to score goals.. Soccer...the field does not change length in the World Cup!!! Any sport you can think of does not change radically during a championship, if anything they are made harder but in the SEO world these contests remind me of special olympics for the supposedly intelligent SEOs.... you may win the contest, but your still with a limitation in your abilities afterwards!! A real online seo contest would revolve around the term 'online casino' or 'viagra' The you can claim to be a champion till then you're just a chumpion
Well that and hope and pray the money is really going to be paid.. After all any one of us can run up the hill and say we will pay blah blah dollars but proof is in the actual end result.... till such time... caveat emporer
This might be off topic, but for a contest like this, if the helder doesn't pay, can the contestant sue?
Yes, I have seen lawsuits regarding fake contests before, not stuff like this, but real life ones. but the thing is, that when you use a real term, google will be pissed, because you're gonna clutter up real results.
Yes you can sue and in the United States there are agencys to protect against this kind of issue. However it would likely cost you 5 times the amount of the prize to sue if you do not live within general proximity of the sponsor and their laws may not cover such areas. As for Google getting pissed......they dont seem toooo pissed about their results being full of spam !!! whats one seo contest going to hurt??? and since it would be on a real keyword term, then hopefully sites would be built relevant to the term In your parlance then Google should be pissed at every lame term seo contest held (which is all at this point) as it sucks up their resources and bandwidth while serving no useful purpose to the general publixc.......No???
No, because if you have a lot of contest members appear on the front pages for real terms, and their pages are about the contest, it will lower the quality of the results.
Blogmaster Not sure how to explain this but one would be ranking for terms liks "computers" "viagra" so the content would be relevant to the keyword term. As such the keyword term would have no reference to being a part of an seo contest and as such venturing off the theme or topic would probably not work due to the more relevant competing pages.
I agree totally with blogmaster. Even if those keywords are relevant, mostly those articles/content is written for the contest! Moreover it is a fair call! Since the keywords are uncommon or somewhat new everyone has to come up with a NEW page and start from scratch! Then only you can measure WHO is the BEST
You can agree but your methodology is wrong. In a championship are there typically two new teams nobody has ever heard of ??? NO You want to compete against something tough and not something of which there is no competition. Why if that were the case nobody woukd play someone better than them in chess or cribbage or whatever contest one would partake in So black hand..you can take the easy way out.... or try to measure up to real challenges..... Peace
Blogmaster, hmmm this all could be a dream I suppose, It has been a long strange trip indeed.... but I think I am more of a realist than you give me credit for ....in that these so called contests, are not contests in reality, but merely a dream of wanna be SEOs
I never said they were real challenges. But for some people they are fun, and make them some money while at it. If you have a better idea, lemme know ... I'm interested in hearing about it. But anything else than a made-up term would run a risk of Google banning participants by IP, API and such. Is there a made-up term that you can't get without beating the "sandbox"?
I am still waiting for that big ultimate SEO contest to come! For me it doesn´t make any sense that someone not already done this. Imagine the publicity and prestige involved if a Major company would announce an SEO contest with very thought through rules and a very large prize pot. Grand price should be high $25,000 - $100,000 and the preparation time + get the word on the street should be 6 months - 12 months. Whadda ya say? It would make sense right?
