Cool new search engine launched yesterday that allows consumers to search for products by appearance rather than just text. When a user clicks on an image of an item, Like.com will compare that item’s shape; color and texture to millions of other similar images found on the internet and display the best matches. It looks like Like.com is initially focusing on a few shopping categories like handbags, watches, jewelry, watches and shoes; and then allows consumers to purchase directly from Amazon.com. Just blogged it: http://www.britopian.com/blog/2006/11/08/new-visual-search-engine-launched-likecom/ Site: http://www.like.com
This is reasonably impressive but it's just putting products into different search categories instead of more categories which all sites should do.
It sucks. I searched for games and it gave me this: http://www.like.com/search?btnSearch=all&searchText=games =\
Same with me "video games" came up with shoes as the results. That is a major problem too am I doing something wrong?
I typed in 'jaguar car' and it came up with 'no results found'. I like the concept but may take a while to be something I would use regularly.
Its a good idea, but it needs to be developed to more than just shopping accesories. The domain is pretty sweet.
here is the explanation of why the search results are limited: from http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/11/08/riyas-likecom-is-first-true-visual-image-search/
