    Hi Guys,

We've just launched our new online search engine 'searchii' and really appreciate your suggestions, comments and feedback. We've launched our product in over 15 countries with localised search options.

We're not re-inventing the search wheel here so please leave those comments in the bin. Searchii provides an enterprise class alternative to mainstream providors in the hope we can gain a significant % share of the market. Our company focus is on developing online search capabilitities to enhance our users online activities. So our development pipeline is based around user suggestions, ie we are launching our local 'Find an item' search in the next few weeks. This is a unique feature to searchii for users to compare and search for any item across multiple mediums ie auction, retail and classifieds. Watch the blog for that...

We also launched SearchiiAds.com, our online advertising solutions program. Again its very similar to the CPC advertising campaigns you current run however lower cpc rates means far greater ROI.

The company, Searchii Limited operates a small team and we've been overwealmed with the support we have received so far. Cuil has done great things for us RE marketing :) and keen to get some feedback from respected DP users.

    Kind Regards,

    Alex Greig
    Co/Founder

I like it. The logo kind of reminds of the Wii, but I don't like the light blue search results, it kind of makes me want to throw my computer out of the window.

I can't "quote" everyone so apologies, but appreciate the feedback. And yes certainly early days for us with lots of cool new search capabilites in the development cycle. With regards to light blue color on search results, we're certainly open to suggestions on that front if enough users request this. What would be your suggestion csroster?

How do you also find the preview link on each search result? With our own internal testing we find ourselves using this tool? Hopeing others do also??

    Cheers,

    Alex

Great but I think it's not necessary to submit your site to search engines. Spiders will crawl your site even if you didn't not submit it.

    Hi Tsukara,

Who was talking about submitting sites? :) And yes you are correct in your statement, however if your site is new and would like to make us aware of that point you can submit your site to our crawler 'Bumby'. But yes if you have an existing site you do not need to submit your site to our crawler or any other for that matter. It will get picked up!

quick update: we will be adjusting the search results URL shade of green to a darker color. We believe this will make visability more effective across both LCD, CRT and Plasma screens.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

You have my website ranked # 1 for my most important search term, so I'd have to give Searchii TWO thumbs up!

I dont know what this guys on about you r asking for feedback and being open as possible about your site, spam IMO is when sites trick you with posts like I just found this cool new *site* blah blah and its really a employee faking a third person traffic drive.

    NOW to your site..

First of as a fellow kiwi now living in Oz I hope you are a raging success. Yes your logo lacks original creativity.. too much like the Skype logo.. you need to create string brand that is independent and most important remembered!

Also your explanation of what makes Searchii different or better does not sell, sure it seems localised but his is not enough IMO. It looks like your algorithm give higher relevance to actual URL's in the query than big G which is good but easily open to having results gamed by SEO.

Give more of the tech behind your search, plus I believe the future of search is in video that is relevant so the first step in probably someone like CUILL who have gone for an extended magazine view as a first step.

    Good luck!
    J

Wow.. the results seem relatively relevant. Congrats!

On second thought.. why do the results shift position if you click search again? That doesn't make sense. And the results do seem awfully close to google's results.

    Hi J,

I did think the comment re spam was a little off but decided to leap over it. ;)

You are correct re the logo, but our colours have always been blue/white, even previous design concepts have used the blue color, this we couldn't avoid. With regard to the style of the logo, it is very similar and to be honest this was not intentional. Our font weight is thicker, the text border is quite flat across with a jump over the II. While skype border starts small to large and then small again.

As mentioned we're not reinventing the search wheel. We are providing an alternative, yes launched globally but with a local focus. Google takes very close to 90% market share in NZ, AU and around 60 - 65+% in the US and UK. Cuil's POD was "were the biggest search engine in the world" our view on that is great, hope it works for you but our opinion / research indicated users don't care about the size on one's index. Sure its a great feature, but relevancy, speed and usability. That is where our POD(point of differences) lye. Refer back to company motto, features like the preview link on each search result, autosuggest for search, 'Find an item' local item search, and locally owned.

For our technology searchii uses two forms of technology to form its search results. Firstly we have our own crawler named 'Bumby', again with purely a content focus. Secondly we pull a handful of search results from other leading content focussed search engines to deliver the most relevant content for any given search keyword.
Searchii also only returns anywhere from 50 to 120 pages which we determine to be enough. If you haven't found what your looking for in the first 5 pages, thats just not good enough. We believe our technology does this well.

Our Company and the future of our technology will be focussed around our users online activities. Which was the driver behind the 'Find an item' search, and other capabilities in our product developement pipeline.

Hope this helps, and again appreciate the feedback, posts, blog reviews etc. :)

    Hi,

I have 20 blogs on various subject so I'll def get around to writing about you guys in the next week or so.

Thanks for the update on your POD as its a lot clearer and I see where your focus is.. I'm totally with you on size & relevance I never go past the first 7 pages in my search unless its a very its a very rare term with poor results so this is spot on only going for relevance..I checked a couple of my sites and they rank better on Searchii (page 2) compared to Google (page 5) so I'd be keen to see how they move in your SERPS.

It does seem as though your BOT (Bumby) pulls from mainly the 'title tags' then the URL (not so much as first thought).. I do like the expanded approach to results some cluster engines take as the one problem I have with G is they never provide enough relevant info in their SERPS for me to know if the sites is really what I want.. their LSI is a bit off for me, the only factor that saves them is their relevance is pretty good so when you click through the page actually is ok but I would never be able to decide that based on the content in the index just thank goodness G-Bot knows his shiz..

G now has an index so big that they stopped publishing official size so that was not a selling point for me on Cuill but I really liked how they served up results, magazine style especially lets gives me a larger snap shot of the site indexed before I clicked through.

Good luck I'll keep a watch out for you guys, and if you become the next Larry Page please pls count me in for the IPO before the shares go public :)

    J
