I got the strangely placed images next to some of the searches I tried too - they're not related to the sites that they're placed next to. I also searched for some sites that have been around forever and they weren't included - not big sites by any means but they should still be there...
The results are pretty good for business sites but no so good for celebrity sites. It's a good tool because it doesn't have all the penalties and filters created by the google sp*m team.
cuil wab build by some employers that left google. theirscope is to show relevant site (by content) not by number of links see wikipedia for more info I don't like the design.
i dont thinkits fair people trying to compare a new search engine to google yet, google have had years and years of data and training to fine tune there results this has been online for a day! but however i think with age one day cuil could be a serious competitor for google, just because of the fact that most of googles top enginers are now working at cuil, including anna there cheif architect who designed G!s index as for slowness i think its being crashing alot over the first day as it recived so much traffic anyhoo good luck to them
dnt get that? also i found it quite funny that if you search google cuil comes up on the bottom of the page
I searched for my site , I can see many result of pages which link to my site, but I don't see any result from my website. Too bad
I heard about Cuil on the radio yesterday and couldn't wait to check it out. How incredibly disappointing! The UI is fantastic, but the results are attrocious! I did a search for my niche and 6 out of the top 10 were inner pages on one site that doesn't relate, did another similar search and two of the top 10 were porno! Oh well! Wouldn't you think that former Google people who talked such a big game would have done better?
I think its great to see this. As search engines go, its still early days. The results still need some tweaking, like filtering out parked pages and spam(MFA) sites. Its interesting to see that their search results are generated by content analysis rather than a combination of content and link analysis. Which means that its content is king for Cuil, whereas for google links play a big part in the results generated via its Page Rank algo. I think cuil will need some form of ranking sites rather than just relying on content. Relying on content can lead to MFA sites and parked pages showing up for some queries. So they either filter these sites out when analysing the data for their index, or implement some form of link counting to generate an accurate rank for a webpage. Definitely be watching this in the future.
I've got the same issue for one of my sites - nowhere to be found (although ranks well in every other SE), but one of our product images from our homepage is used on 25% of the results, including our major competitor's results.
so they claim to be the biggest search engine and cant come up with 10 hits for my website? there's something wrong there. what's up with the little thumbnails?
many webmasters blocked their bots over the past year or so. They were pretty well known to eat up tons of bandwidth, so it's no wonder lots of large sites like digitalpoint are not indexed.
I don't understand - if this is the world's biggest search engine, why would you need to submit your site? I am baffled how these apparently talented search people could honestly release this product when the results are almost 100% garbage! Do a search for "diecast muscle cars" and 2 of the top results are for yesblackporn.com. What a joke! Did they honestly think they were going to impress anyone with this fiasco? I would hope that these big talkers who apparently enjoy arrogantly criticizing Google are humiliated right now.
The results are horrible. It throws Junk images over the results. Also the results are not numbered which is a bit confusing on which one has the priority.. My knol here on the relevance http://knol.google.com/k/guna-nadar/search-relevance-google-vs-cuil/18pn58gwhohkh/5
