New Project: be apart of it

    THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN

Some of you may know about an online game called Moonbase. Moonbase is a text based online strategy game mainly played on Mxit (a social messaging app) and on a .mobi site.

How ever Moonbase has been shutdown by its developers. The real reason is unclear and they have left us in the dark.

How ever the moonbase community is angry and want them to bring the game back.

But it seems the future of moonbase shall remain dead.

I want to give the people what the people want. I am attempting to bring a similar game that wil have the same core mechanics of Moonbase that dare i say thousands of players loved.

There are already other alternatives to Moonbase out there but the comunity is not satisfied by them as they are not what moonbase was.

I aim to tackle this project. Create a free to play online textbased strategy game inspired by moonbase and its players.

But i lay crippeld in my limited experience and skill.

This is me asking for anyone with knowledge in PHP and HTML who is looking for a part time project to join. I dont have money, so i cannot pay you. But i can offer you the chance to join me and be apart of something great. There is potential for making money with this game.

If you are interested and would like to hear more you can email me at .
With the right people we can finish this project relatively quick.

    Kind Regards

    Louis Scheepers

My suggestion is this: If so many people want this game, then they'll be more than willing to chip in to make it happen. Consult with some freelancers and find out how much it's gonna cost to develop the game, then run a Kickstarter project, or something similar, to solicit funding for the game project...

    Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your advice, the game is pretty simple to make, I would ve able to do it on my own but i dont have the necesary skills to do so, the community of moonbase has only an abandoned facebook page to discuss the game on. And finding freelancers i have find to be difficult that is why i have reached out to some people on forums as i dont know many programmers.

It's not difficult to find freelance coders with the skill to do what you want. freelancer.com and odesk.com have thousands of qualified applicants. The problem is creating a presentation that effectively illustrates exactly what you want to a potential coder. I'd start by writing a description of the game, the different options in the game and how the game works and players interact. Be as detailed as possible in your document. Then do a Google image search for "moonbase game" and pick out the images that best show how the game is played. Use a simple photo editing program like Photoshop, or even MS Paint to add text explaining the things in the images. Once you have the relevant information on file, you can start looking for a freelance coder willing to take on the project. Make sure to check their ratings and qualifications. Once you have someone capable of taking on the project and willing to do the work, start a Kickstarter project to get funds to make it happen.

As for being able to interact with other game fans, you can easily find them by doing Google searches for forums and blogs with posts related to the game. Try something like "Moonbase game strategy" and look for forum posts. I actually found a link to a game called "Moon Base" that seems to be an active game. Maybe someone already did what you want to do, or the game has been revived?

So you have an idea and no experience or skillset to implement it....why would someone want to partner with you if they don't need you?

By the way... I have never heard of moonbase. And a simple google search returned nothing about the text base game. So if the developers abandoned the game most likely it was due to lack of interest and monetary return to continue to even pay the hosting fee to support the game. If it's true that OTHER companies and individuals have tried to replicate the game it is absolutely a waste of time to make another copy cat failure.

Even if you do re-create the game you will probably find there isn't much of a community or demand for such a thing. My best advice would be...if you want to create a game start from scratch and don't mimic a game of the past. At least then you will have a better chance at success then to try to bring back something from the dead.

Keep in mind that 10,000 people is not a lot of people when it comes to squeezing revenue out of a game and could be why they stopped development. They probably put their resources into other projects that garnered 1,000,000 people which is where the revenue money starts to justify the costs.

You are right why would people do things they wont normally do? I would take my time in developing this game and learn the necesarry skills but that will take to long. We need to act before somebody else decides to do it.

    No.

You don't get it. Here's reality... there isn't a demand for this. Noone is going to take an interest in helping you. And IF there was someone out there that had the skill set to implement this they wouldn't pair up with you because you offer absolutely NO value. You are useless in this project. If there is someone who read your post and it sparked an interest they are right now coming up with ideas to do it on their own and NOT reaching out to you.

And according to you this has already been replicated several times. Just let it go.. this is a horrible idea and you won't get a partner.

I'm not saying you're wrong in your assumptions, but you suck at Googling :) However, most of the information about the game has been taken down (there are quite a few forum threads, though), and the game's website etc. is not operational atm.
