ummmmmmm..........so your saying that it's a bad idea to do what is successful by following what top vendors have done??

Really got to disagree on that one........I'd be quite happy to settle for mediocre sites that convert on a consistant basis, I don't need greatness or innovation........why break what already works?

It's common knowledge that most people don't purchase on the first look and to have follow up reminders about the product is a great idea, that's why people do it. I don't care whether I get the commission staight away or through a follow up email 2 months later down the track, I only care whether I get the commission or not!

If you choose not to promote a product simply because it has an optin form on the page then you are leaving a lot of money on the table.

Because it would simply be a free for all with people spamming the ass out of everybody trying to get their cookie on to anybodies computer before someone else does in order to get the commission, that would be plain stupid. PPC prices would skyrocket with everybody bidding for the top spot in order to get their cookie on the surfers PC first.......can you say KAOS......

The way they have it now is the best way to do it.

@Terryd: not exactly. It's one thing to stand on the shoulders of giants, it's another thing to repeat their footsteps hoping to get to the same places they've been. But that's just the crazy old chinese man in me talking, and I digress.

Pertaining the subject matter, and aiming for relevance - I should say that in my limited and noobyist experience as a CB affiliate I've already dealt with several vendors, most of whom have provided me with quite impeccable affiliate support. Even more so than their good products, that's the key quality that makes me want to work with them.

I don't want to pass harsh judgments for no reason, but that the OP doesn't take any interest in even debating the email capture issue further tickles my affiliate sense in the wrong way. And yeah I get it, he may just be busy with other stuff, but it's his product, not mine :-/ And I'm not saying that he's losing a BIG BAD affiliate, because by no means I'm such a thing.

I am however saying that I have a strong impression that ANY vendor will go at much further lengths by cultivating a good relationship with his affiliates rather than squeezing e-mails out of their hard work. Again, I'm of no authority and this is just my opinion: which as easily can be observed or dispensed. To each his own.

Concerning the deontology of e-mail capture, I'll indeed keep my opinions to my own thread when I make up my mind to opening it. Once again, I apologize for my wordiness.

Now, if only I could get some sleep... :-/

i really dont want a flame war over this but the main reason for the autoresponder is to give away a chapter so people know exactly what im selling it was hard for me to describe in the sales page. i dont want a lot of refunds from people buying something thinking it was something completely different.

Its not like a lot of dating ebook out there so i am doing something different although i have ran sites in the past and know that that autoresponders can bring in more revenue for the affiliates than the traffic they send i see this is important to affiliates now with all these post ill promise to only mail out stuff to enhance affiliates comissions this is a win win relationship im not out to scam my affiliates.

Personally, I think it's fine to collect email addresses and follow up with prospects... It means I'm more likely to get a commission, and that's good for me :)

LoL... No need for flames OR war. I admit I'm possibly sleep deprived and being nit-picky. I don't mean to propose that vendors who squeeze e-mails are necessarily evil, but it would probably be better to capture those e-mails through a pop-up when a visitor tries to close the window. :p Those are my humble $0.02 and that's that.

Sounds like a sensible remark and I appreciate it. Let's keep in mind we're all on the same side, here!
