Porsche is finally looking to replace the 928. It looks like it will come in 2 and 4 door models with a 450hp Turbo version. Yowser! There is no substitute.
YUCK! Still looks like the 911 line...only UGLY! I prefer the Carrera GT anyway! I had a supercharged 928s4. The thing was a powerhouse but always in the shop.
At last - they are trying to compete with Aston Martin. I still haven't forgiven Porsche for launching the VW Cayanne useless bloater 4WD people carrier. I really think that diluted their marque identity. And they have the creativity over there to do something way cooler than the 911 (again - can't believe they still use that brand name even in the US). Get onto it guys! To shamelessly promote Aston Martin: There is the wonderful Vanquish. The best car I've ever driven, the DB9 and now the new V8 to compete directly with the 911. Aston Rocks. Curiously enough I recently picked up my own Aston domain name - see Aston Martin Restoration
Wait, why is the Cayenne useless? It's a pretty impressive car if you ask me. (Not that I'd ever buy one)
Do I get away with Bloater 4WD people carrier? That would do me I just feel the Cayanne is cynical. That's probably a better description than useless as I'm sure it does the A to B stuff perfectly OK so I'll admit it has some use.
I thought the same thing when I first heard about the Cayenne. But after reading up on it and racing a few, I'm pretty impressed. They also have the new Cayman: http://www2.us.porsche.com/cayman/pcna.asp
I saw crocodiles and some revolving "instantly Porsche" text but gave up before I saw a car (sorry). I'm more interested by your racing - what have you been up to?
I've thought about getting a Cayenne, but there isn't enough back seat room for two child seats (1 reversed). The S would be a minimum, no reason to get a plain old Cayenne. The tiptronic that is out now has clicky shifters on the steering wheels like the old IBM keyboards (yuck!). My 911 (993) has much smoother and better shifting buttons - and it's still a great ride. I'm thinking now about a X5, but I'm waiting until 2006 to see if they put I-Drive in there, or at least an in-dash cd changer. I love the panoramic sunroof on it. The 4.8 is second to the Cayenne Turbo in performance for a lot less money. Besides, the Cayenne looks too much like a toureg. One thing that Porsche has gotten wrong is making their lower end cars look too much like their higher end ones. From the front, it's hard to tell a 911 from a Boxter now since they share headlights. I would be pissed after spending 70K on a car for it to look just like the 45K model. They haven't come out with anything yet as good looking as a 993 IMO. - well the Turbo's and the GT's are great looking, but at 100K+ they are out of my league for now.
