Alright, I need to buy a desktop and windows XP seems to be hands down the better OS vs. Vista. A few questions for those on top of this topic. 1.) SO, will IE8 work on XP? 2.) Can I still buy XP at the local stores..best buys, frys? 3.) Would anyone wait on buying a PC due to release of the new operating system at the end of 2009 (Vienna) ? 4.) If I buy an XP computer now, can I upgrade it to the new OS (Vienna) in 2 years? or do I need to buy a Vista computer to upgrade to the new OS. I just don't want to buy a another new desktop each 2 years. I will pay a small fee to upgrade the OS though. thanks
Well, it is totally up to you imo. I believe that you should be able to upgrade from XP to Veinna after 2 years. Although, if you ask me, I say you buy a Vista desktop, with atleast 1.5 GB's of RAM, it will work perfectly fine for you and don't forget to install the Vista SP1 as well, which helps out. Good luck.
exactly...I agree, especially if I will keep it for 4 yrs or more. The RAM will be high 1.5 sounds good now and / or upgradeable as well as the Video MB. There's just so many complaints on Vista and its usage requirements, slowness etc.I'd rather stick with XP and upgrade to Vienna then. Since they will phase out XP support and the OS at stores, they almost have to offer upgrades for existing XP owners to Vienna, ya' think..? The RAM requirement is logical....each new OS they introduce requires so much more RAM.
If you are comfortable using a computer, you will see how to speed up Vista, and cut down on some of the unnecessary processes that it runs. Most people complaining about it on here don't know half of what they're complaining about. Get a desktop with 2GB of RAM and you will be fine. You'll need a fairly good processor and video card as well. You should get at least the basic Intel Duo Core processor and at least a 128MB graphics card, which will allow you to do everything except hard core gaming.
Not sure if you can find many with Xp left at stores. I have one with vista and changed settings to make it work better.
There is no way to guess what hardware any new OS will require, not to mention, what software might, or might not work with it. Has M$ ever met an estimated time of release of a version, years in advance?, I would not hold my breath waiting on M$'s newest future versions. From some news coming out of M$, XP might even still be around a bit longer than expected. As for me, I'm still on XP BWC
