I'm buying a PC for the business and wondered if anyone has any advice.

    As I live in the UK a lot of you won't really be able to help but I'm looking to spend around £300 and so far the best deal I've seen so far is;

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dell...08302&rbc=D08302&s=bsd&sbc=ukbsdftdppdesktop1

which comes to a little more expensive at £388

I'd be very happy to hear any other deals that people have seen.

If you are after cheap have a look www.scan.co.uk and www.ebuyer.co.uk

I got my last PC from Dell and I'm very happy with it, especially considering the price

I don't have specific deals in mind (I will be getting a new machine in December though) but I always go with Dell for my business machines. When I am buying a latest and greatest machine for my sites, etc I usually format my old machine and move it to the Accounting desk (Which isn't online to avoid all the virus crap)

I tried a smaller company on a suggestion once and hated it. I am pretty computer savvy so I like the fact that Dell will send out a part and let you replace it yourself rather than talk to you like you are stupid.

    Anyway, back on topic

Shoemoney buiys a lot of computers with Dell so he might be your best chance. I know he buys them in the US but he may also know some of the UK deals

I've had a little look at those but they dont have many prebuilt PCs and I dont want to have to start building one myself.

Dell always seems to be good value for money.

I've always bought parts from ebuyer and built the machines myself - never had any problems at all, though you should note that they can be a little tricky to contact if you are unlucky enough to have problems.

I would recommend buying your system from ebuyer because they are the best value I have found, as a UK buyer. In my experience, and those of several people I know, their service has always been superb and none of us have ever had any problems.

I was just saying that I am aware of a few odd people out of the thousands of buyers there that have had problems (manufacturing faults, not knowing what they were doing! etc) and they have found it tricky to contact the site to arrange replacements, etc. I guess this is the same as any other online computer retailer though and it hasn't put me off making over 100 purchases there for friends, family and workmates.

I bought my wireless router from there and it was fantastic value for money from the delivery process to the product itself.

However, I would be a little uneducated about buying all the parts seperately to know what goes with what etc. I know people who have bought uncompatible parts and ended up paying twice the amount they should have.

    Ahh I see lol.

Just as a matter of interest... is it cheaper to buy the parts and build it yourself?

For a relatively lower spec machine, such as you would use for business, no. For a top end gaming machine, I would never recommend buying one off the shelf, either in terms of cost or in getting the exact performance you require.

rofl I didn't even notice that.

Just shows you how blind I am when looking for these things. It was one of the comments that said you might need another 256 RAM if you want to run XP that confused me a bit lol.
