New pages on high traffic site not getting indexed quickly

My site's URL (web address) is: http://bit.ly/9MnDCc

Our site is 13 years old, PR 7, gets >150K pageviews per day and we are publishing ~20 new articles a day with very poor indexing rate of only 2-5 articles being indexed per day.
Please see the articles indexed in the last 24 hours: http://bit.ly/cVedc4
Here is a similarly sized site and their # indexed pages in 24 hours: http://bit.ly/dh7je5

We have google Webmaster tools setup, no robots.txt problems, almost no crawling errors (only 403 for unpublished content), and an XML sitemap that is updated when each new article is published.
Our pages have seo-friendly URLs, titles, h1 and unique content.
All of our new content is automatically published to both the front page as well as 2-3 high traffic Index pages within our site.
I'm scratching my head as to why we are having so much trouble getting more pages indexed.
    Any ideas?

If it helps any we are having the same problem. I know Google had a glitch a few weeks back and said it was fixed but I have seen slow indexing ever since. How long has this been happenning?
