New Pages Great In SERPs, Then Fall

    Hey all,

If new pages get great SERPs, does that mean that google "likes" the content's relevancy?

If the new pages that start with great SERPs start falling in SERPs within a few days, after getting good traffic at first, does that mean that there aren't enough backlinks to that page?

In other words, can you prevent pages from falling in SERPs with backlink quality and quantity?

    Thanks!!

Yes, yes and yes. You start with a "newbie bonus" that often makes a well built new site rank extremely high, even for medium competitive terms, but afterwards you have to earn your rank by adding links.

There is no remedy against this downmove, since adding too many links would kick you right to the sandbox (some people do it this way, they launch a site, add thousands of links and wait for it to get out of the sandbox again, but it can get a domain kicked as well). Just add links, slowly but steadily, and you'll rise in the SERPs again.

With sites on old, trusted domains it can be different, less downmove, quicker recovery, especially since you can add more links faster.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the three answers were "yes", but it helps to hear someone else say it.

This is so frustrating. On a new test site, I got soooo many medium competitive kw's ranked high in serps very quickly, but now they are all falling within a week. I wish there was a way out of this. I know they will come back, but it sucks to lose the nice google traffic so quickly.

Anyone have any advice on how to prevent the slide down, or how to recover quicker for a new site?

    Thanks!!

I'm in the same situation at the moment. All I can do is build backlinks and add new content everyday and update the sitemap whenever I do so.

Were you getting google traffic before the fall?
