I added a page to my 6 year old website recently to better target some content in an effort to gain some Google natural search traffic for the term - a two word phrase. Within a couple of weeks I rose from 70 to 50 on Google for the two word keyword phrase, then today, with no changes or additional work done, dropped to 100. Related three and four word keywords continue to rank high (30 and 4, respectively). My question is, is it normal to plummet 50 spots on Google so soon after being indexed and rising to the 50th position? Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated.
The link building has to be continuously done for any new page added. The competition goes fierce as you keep rising in the rankings on Google. You have to keep up to the standards of the sites that you are competing with; otherwise, you are thrown out of the SERPs.
Google Page rank is based on quality back links. Back links are Links pointing to your website from another website. Eliminate over-competitive terms in your web pages. Post frequently. you can definitely increasing your website traffic and search engine ranking.
Unfortunately, it's very normal. Be lucky you even ended up in 100. Sometimes you just disappear altogether. However, if you build links constantly, your page will eventually resurface and stay there.
As said, get backlinks to the page with anchor text of the keywords you want to rank for. Fluctuations like this are normal for new pages.
