it's there now... earlier it was a "page not found" error.

i see this new capability as a kind of reward for adsense publishers who create quality content, that potential advertisers may want to target directly... it's about time!

It's not new. Site/page targeting has been around for awhile now.

i guess that i'll have to spell it out for you

in about two weeks, there will be a direct link at the bottom of every adsense text ad(?) that will allow web surfers to enroll in adsense, and target the particular site that they signed up for adsense with, as well... it's an easier way for every web surfer to be a potential advertiser for your site.

this capability is elective, apparently you can turn it off if you want.

haha, that's typically what you do on forums - spell out the point you're trying to make. I talk to DP all day but no one ever talks back:)

I see what you're saying, I remember when this feature was being a tested a month or two ago. The feedback at the time was "give us an option to opt out of this" - glad to see G listened.

lol... or if they do talk back, it's often negative!

this thing is spelled out better in the "my account" settings area... you can even create a semi-custom landing page with your own logo... unfortunately it's only one landing page regardless of how many sites you have, but it's a start.

I've already opted out of it. If advertisers want to put an ad on my site, they can come directly to me. I don't want to split my profit with Google.

I'm not sure what to do about the logo or what I should put as the Site name with multiple sites. It could be confusing to advertisers.

I guess a custom description is in order.

You could be missing out on quite a few potential advertisers. Many will probably feel more comfortable going through Google.

i see that your blog doesn't have any direct advertising on it.

why not use both the google on-site advertiser sign-up page, and >gasp< allow for direct advertising also?

i had a friend who created and ran his own magazine... there were two things that finally put him out of business, and one of 'em was the dismal failure of many advertisers to pay their bills.

I assume you were talking about AdMoolah. I do have some direct advertisers on the main site, but not the blog. I have other sites that are much more appealing to advertisers where I already have a link for contacting me for direct advertisers. I don't want people to get confused and not realize that I do offer direct advertising, which the AdSense "advertise on this site" link may do.

The very first person who I put up for a direct ad for never paid me. After that I've always gotten payment up-front before placing the ad.

I think this is an excellent step. Makes it much easier for advertisers to advertise on your site and you are more or less assured that they will actually pay for the advertising.

You also don't need to worry about handling the amount of impressions etc.

I definitely don't mind sharing with Google if it makes things easier for me.

yes, i was, sorry for quoting the wrong person.

i haven't yet tried the "your ad here" approach to bringiing in direct advertisers, but i'm not too worried about it being confused with the google tagline at the bottom of their ads... i think that the worst case scenario might be if you didn't already have any direct advertisers on your site, just adsense.

Unless you already have direct advertisers on your site, who now jump to Google bcause they're able to advertise on your site for less than what they'd charge going directly to you. The only real solution (and it's not all that fun to deal with) is blocking your own advertisers from your adsense account so that they can't switch over, or even just cut off adsense entirely.

i can give direct advertisers an unlimited number of custom ad solutions that should give better roi than adsense, at any price structure we can agree on... they can also advertise on pages that are adsense-free, so that there is no competition.

    i see co-existance here.
