Hi all ive just brought a new board (MSI - 9I5P/G Neo2) and hooked up my old HD but it will not boot windows, it just keeps rebooting. Ive tried reformatting and re-installing windows but gets thru the start of installation and crashes saying there is a prob with HD. I know that the HD is in 100% working order (otherwise i wouldnt be on here chatting ) and i know the windows disc is fine. Only thing i can think of is the HD is incompatible with the board (maybe i need a SATA HD??) Any thoughts? BTW: its running a 3.2 P4 755 socket CPU with 512mb DDR2 ram and 256mb graphics card.
yeh, ive double and treble checked everythings in. and its annoyin me now, everytime i buy something new for it and think ive fixed it something else happens.
I'll try brain storming but did you attempt to reset the choms bat and check your bios settings. Hd cable and pin settings. Disconnect components that are not vital to the system booting incase your power supply isn't sending enough juice. Of course check all connections and cards/ram is seated properly.
ive reset cmos and uplugged unneeded stuff (altho its powered by a 500w PSU) and it still didnt work. all i have attached is the PCI-E graphics card, DVD drive & the HD
hmmm trying to think, you don't by chance have a spare hard drive you can use to check with? To make sure it's not something wrong with the mother board. Have you tried changing what IDE channel the hd is hooked up to, or do you have a spare IDE cable you could use?
got it fixed, the error was caused by the mother board trying to read the IDE HD as a SATA one. There was a setting in bios that needed to be changed so it read it as IDE. thx 2 all that helped.
